Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I truly hope it warms up in March. My goat doe is due March 12. I had a doe give birth during a blizzard last year, and that was not fun, especially because she needed assistance because the kids were malpositioned. I didn't realize how cold I was until it was over, since I had been outside for hours and my cloths were wet with...fluids.

I have finally started getting chicken eggs again! No supplemental light here, so they got a bit of a rest. But I was tired of buying storebought eggs!

Me too, though mine is due at the end of march.. I would like it a bit warmer. I'm going to close of part of our goat shed and put in a heat lamp if anything so I have some heat while I'm hanging out. Hopefully I'll be home when it happens..I'm trying to figure out the ligaments thing. As big as she is, we are hoping for twins.

Saturday the sheep are getting sheared!

Hi Michiganders!

I was over in Chelsea this weekend and stopped by Family Farm and Home. They have little chicks already is stock. Currently they have Cornish Rock straight run and pullets. Plus some supplies on sale. They are also taking individual orders. We put in an order for 5 New Hampshires chicks. can't wait!

Thought I would spread the word.

We brought in the FG, Eeyore in to hang out and trim his nails.
Is that the buck you got from me?

Pretty soon (mid-March) I'll be breeding the FGs and the CA/NZ doe with a FG. The FG's go really fast. I'd like to get another doe that's steel grey.

Quote: A great number of elderly will say that they don't want anyone helping them and that should not be taken as an affront. As one ages accepting the reality of that is difficult. Even though I don't consider myself elderly I am having to accept the fact that I can no longer do many of the things I used to do. I remember the first time my son ask me to wait for him before starting potentially dangerous project. Initially I was incensed until he explained that he wanted to insure we could continuing doing many things together for many years.

The best way to assist elderly people is to do things with them and not for them. With my old farmer friend I will go out to lunch with him and suggest that while we are out do you want to do your grocery shopping. It becomes an outing and not a task. With my friend he has started waiting for me rather than tackling things by himself.

Talk of roofs collapsing...my neighbor who has horses, and boards one, or two, lost his whole barn. Luckily the attached stable did not go down on the horses, but, the main barn collapsed on his tractor, implements, and round bales. Snow load is no joke on old structures that were not built correctly to start with. His barn was built by a dairy farmer years ago and, well, it held for 40 years. As soon as the adjuster looks at the flattened mess we'll start demo and get going on a new barn.

There's a pretty decent chance I will be coming back from TSC with some chicks this week - I'm a sucker for them... I don't need all 6, so if anyone near Ann Arbor wants a few, let me know and we can split them. :)
What a coincidence, I was thinking the same thing. Which TSC are you going to?

I've had no fresh eggs since June. Store bought eggs are just awful, even the "organic" ones.
But now I am getting real eggs. They are on the small side but still wonderful.

just came from FFH on Plainfield GR they have silver laced wyndots, for .99 straight run did not all look like SLW to me a few chipmonk look some black with grayish wings some with white dot on head, also Isa Browns for 1.99

What? Chicks are out already? Hmm... I guess I need to get my butt in gear and start building a small coop in my garage. Something that the men folk can move. Maybe an A frame? I have a brooder already and heat lamp. Hmm...
