Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

DH is good at all that kind of stuff..I do the canning; he does the "cleaning" of food :) I can everything; wild turkey soup; my chili's, pasta e fagioli, spaghetti sauce, venison vegetable barley soup (I pretty much make triple batches of stuff & can). LOVE being able to come home from work & have a home cooked meal in 15 mins....

Hurry, the bee packages and nucs are almost gone. Orders close at the end of the month from most places in SE Mich.
I don't know squat about keeping bees but after buying honey for my mead I should get educated ASAP and start. I have the room. What do I need to get going? Where do I get it?

If I go to CS I'll bring rabbits ( I'll post in the swap/sell if I decide to go). I want to go and have for a few years now. Seems like some of my friends are not going?

I wasn't being snarky in suggesting another thread, there are many threads that are specialized. Myself i follow several breed threads, this one, my own thread, several project threads and time to time assist in medical questions in the emergency section. You have to remember that quite a few of us have been doing this for years, so we already know the technical parts. Always room to grow, but it's just not always first on the mind? If someone is new or asks a question then i can get into that part.

I'm not really sure what exactly you are wanting us to write about? If you are picking our brains asking questions will get you what you want to know quickest. If you are already knowlegable and are looking to buy, there's a thread for that too? Backyard chickens also has a farm animal forum too? Again, not sure what it is you are really wanting wrote about. Can't give you much excitement as my life's kinda boring right now with winter and all. :(

I love how something isn't even in your thoughts and then shows up repeatedly.... I had never really heard about mead until a couple weeks back it was mentioned in a book, so I investigated a bit. Since then it has come up three times in different situations, way too weird!

Nine chickens left for freezer camp at my brother's yesterday. It is the first time I have shipped off hens. However, they were 10 months old, no eggs, wild when I did manage to catch them and then when I held them they would peck me until I put them down. While feeling a bit guilty, I was thinking " if I get rid of them, then I can hatch more."

My injured silkie girl finally got a bath this weekend. After the bath I actually held her and discovered what I believe are feather lice. I

It was weird that I didn't find them during the bath. I put Ivomec on her because that was all I had. Does anyone know if that is effective for the lice?

Now for my bad news. DH came home from work yesterday (He's finally back!) and told me they were talking about extended forecast. It seems they are saying we are not supposed to get above the 30's through April! I SO hope they are wrong. They are changing policies up here because of the long winter and finances so that secondary roads will not be plowed on weekends/nights until they have over 6 inches of snow.

@fuzzybutt love
I agree with you. I guess what I was trying to say was that I would hope it would not decend into that.
While have only been on here for a short time I have been raising chickens for many years and agree with you about the threds and forums here. If a specific question comes up I go find that thread.
I see this thread as the proverbial coffee shop/barber shop/ watering hole. If I am not interested in the conversation I skip it. Take goats for instance I could care less about goats. But some folks have and like them. So I skip over it.
Anyway last log I will throw on this fire.
