I wanted to bump this back up.
I have an appointment with the local field office to begin the grant process. I'll try to keep a running description of what it takes to wade through the government morass of paperwork.

I can tell you that it takes some persistence to get in touch with the right people and you may get transferred between departments until you find the right person. However, everyone that I have talked to has been especially nice.

They sent me the application form, but DH does not want the farm registered with the USDA.

I' haven't left yet to talk to him but I'll get an idea after...the loud bang you heard? Maybe it was the back window of my Forester blowing out into the driveway, yep, that's what I get to deal with this morning with glass in the snow! Oh well, life goes on. As soon as I tape plastic over the rear hatch I'll set out.
Oh boy... hope you can get it fixed! I worried about that this morning, going from a heated garage out to the cold this morning. Goats were all frosty again according to my view in the goat cam!

Lovely birds Iam5

I checked all the trees around the house and didn't see any downed or damaged... I imagine it was the Raisin River popping this morning. We are pretty close to it and I've heard it a few times. The house pops haven't bothered the birds before, so I figure that it had to be something outside. I'm glad I'm not the only one hearing them!

So, I saved myself the agony of bypassing the chick bin at FFH, I called ahead to see if they had what I wanted, and they did, but the size would have been too big for my sheep. So I didn't go.

FFH by you had banties already? I'm a bit jealous. The FFH over here doesn't have them in yet. I think they wanted to wait a bit for it to be warmer out before getting them in... ? I need a handful of those little cuties. But I agree on the silkies. I already have non-hatchery stock, so I'll pass on those too. I'm hoping to catch some mille fleur from the bin, or at least some porcelains.
The Holland FFH is waiting until mid-March for any large amounts I was told - too cold for the chicks. I'm glad - all this banty talk make me want to get some, but I *plan* on sticking with the larger breeds for now.

Yay tomatoes! Bonnie the house chicken has been seriously eyeing them from her cage :lau.

Sorry about my cluelessness earlier...

Anyways... Is anyone getting chicks on April 28th?

I too heard loud metallic?/wooden? pop late last night....after the shed roof caving in last week it made my heart pound hard......but I heard nothing further and saw nothing damaged this morning...who knows?

Around here they have mandatory run yer water until April too. I have an old shallow well, huge pump's in the house, luckily well head only about 6 feet from house ....crossing fingers, gulp.

Chooks survived the -14 we had here last night just fine...was nice to see the sun today, hoping that was the last negative numbers we see.
It's amazing how I can comfortably run out to the coop in a sweatshirt when it's 'up to' 10 above...lol

Great video Lady, love the sound track!

9 days til hatch day here! .....got 10 growers for sure and I think 6 blue/greens which showed veins at day 7 but hard to see anything now with my rotten candler set up.

Great video Lady, love the sound track!
Thanks, it's from the Riven soundtrack. So dismally cold and sinister. I love it.

@RaZ
