Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Wow! I'm not even going to attempt to catch up. You get a little bit behind and suddenly you have 100 posts to catch up on... Hope everyone is well and, if not, sending well wishes your way.

Welcome to BYC and the Michigan thread. Chickenstock has been an annual event held in June at Delta Mills Park. It is an opportunity for like minded folks to get together, share a meal and a story or two. Also many folks bring birds, animals, and crafts to sell or trade. Really is a nice few hours. This month, for the first time, an "Up North" edition is being held in Lovells. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/693186/northern-michigan-1st-annual-poultry-fest-2012
Thank you for the info...

Trying to find a salesperson to wait on you is difficult. When you do you stand there waiting while they explain to a homeowner how to do something. When you finally get your items, have checked out, you find the loading zone plugged with unattended vehicles so you must push the cart half way across a parking lot. Oh yeah they've made the process easier.

You forgot to mention being harassed every 5 feet by salesmen when you know exactly what you're getting and actually know right where it is. God help you if you need to ask them a question though, they can sense it and disappear into thin air lol.

Don't forget trying to find half a dozen 2X4's in a whole pallet of lumber and failing

Oiy! All of the firewood that I stacked yesterday just fell over. One leg broke and the domino effect took place.
Kind of funny in some ways, I suppose.

Ok BYC friends,

I have just had my 4th day of getting 2 eggs per day!! It is embarrassing how happy that makes me.

2 of those days were actually 3 egg days but that 3rd egg, the shell is so fragile that the yolk and whites are just busted and falling out.

Is there something I could feed them to help with that problem? I was thinking I had read that means they are low in calcium and if that is right crushed up egg shells in yogurt can give them a big dose of calcium am I right?

I couldn't agree more about the big box stores, I love to go into the little locally owned ace hardware type place where people do know what you are talking about.

When pullets first start laying they will occasionally lay a soft-shell egg - it can take a little time for the egg-laying mechansm to get in gear. You may also see a few double yolked eggs. It does not mean they are having calcium problems, just not mature yet.

You are feeding them layer feed?

Well I forget how old they are, I bought them a few weeks ago and I was under the impression that they were all laying, but maybe that isn't the case and the one is just starting to lay?

Thanks.
