Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I could swing buy TSC on Jackson rd in AA for you to see what they have Raz, I go by there to get the DH after work.

Still has this month to go and already huge! My guess is 2, Can't wait!!

Lost one of my guineas a few days ago, I think he was the bird the fox injured last weekend. I knew someone had been bitten because there was blood in the run. Little guy bit off more than he could chew.
Really, two? Looks like triplets. You'll have your hands full. Hope it's an easy birthing! Wow.

Hey fellow Michiganders! I need a little help if possible. I am located in Manistee, MI. I ordered and hatched some beautiful Olive Eggers about 9 months ago from Florida since I couldn't find any here. Now I have about four roosters in town and the neighbors aren't too happy. They are gorgeous and already breeding so they will make more olive Eggers, especially dark if they cover some Marans. Pets only, not for killing. Send me a personal message if interested! Thank you.

Sorry you have to sell out Jake, would be an Awesome start for some one, I'll be seeing a friend this after noon, her daughter maybe interested, They just started chickens last yr.

@ivebeenegged
, glad you're here.  You have almost a year under your belt, so you're hardly a newbie!  Nice looking chickens.

I'm making myself a little nuts trying to decide what kind of fertile eggs to try to get once we have a hen showing signs of broodiness.  Gurus, I'm turning to you.  In order of importance:

I have Tolbunt Polish that have survived my 5 yr old holding them. I have chicks and eggs. They are my most vocal birds at feeding time. Last summer they free ranged with everyone else.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find a shipping crate? I saw some listed for free on Craigslist, but they are gone now. I'm going to need something to make into a *cat-proof* brooder. We got a pair of kittens over the summer and they are very interested in the chicks - I've got to come up with a better solution than I usually have… (in prior years I've just used large boxes cut and tapped to make a big enough area. That definitely won't keep the cats out… Chicks are currently in a rubbermaid in my bathroom, lol)
Any ideas on what I can use that is big enough for them to grow into and safe from kitties?

:/

SO, my silkie's bum.

It was only actually clogged once (where after I cleaned it, well, you could tell she had to go!), but this morning I woke up to this:

It had the consistency of a mucus, but was dried at the end.

The lady at TSC (before we ever even got chickens) recommended this and mixing it with their water. Is this something that you all do for your chicks? Will this help Froozy & her bum? I'm also starting to put some vaseline on there...

Try a dog crate! You can put the entire brooder in a large dog crate.

Also, you can put wire mesh on top of your brooder. In lieu of that, we currently have a baby gate laid across the top of ours. Whatever works!

(we have two cats :: as the chicks are getting older (a week or so), we are taking them out and introducing them to the cats so everyone gets used to each other!)

I made a chicken wire top for a large box.... seems to work, but our dog and cats arent very interested either way

I've used the 100 gallon water troughs in the past. Just need some supported chicken wire on the top. I have an extra one if you want to borrow it.

I just got the idea of using one of those plastic deck boxes. They are fairly inexpensive and you can use it for other stuff later in the year. You would still need a supported wire covering.

Let me know if I can help (even though I'm mad at you for not keeping me out of TSC yesterday).
