Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I am interested in getting a couple of silkie chicks at TSC in Howell or Williamston. If anyone sees them at those locations could you please post? Thanks.
Just created an account to post here! Just checked Williamston TSC and they do not have any assorted bantams as of yesterday. Not sure when they get more in, though.

Welcome to BYC Jimmy and Ande!

For the new comers, we have a really nice event in Lansing Mi every year at the Delta Mills metro park... called Chicken Stock! I believe it is on Saturday June 21st this year. It is a great time to put faces to names. Buy, sell, swap or give away critters of all sorts (of the small variety) rabbits, chickens, there have been puppies etc... soap, honey and nice crafts. Plus we have an awesome bring a dish lunch. I think there may even be some guest speakers(?).

Who's coming (there's a thread for that)
Bring a dish to pass (there's a thread for that)
Critters you want or for sale (yep, there's a thread for that)
Help with planning, clean up and organizing (there's a thread for that too)
We have a raffle, (bring something to contribute) kids games if someone volunteers to organize - or at least plenty in the park for them to do.
And we do ask for a small donation to help with the cost of reserving the pavilion and meat.

Some areas of the park are not in the shade, so it is recommended that you bring a canopy tent or some type of shade to keep you and your critters safe and cool.

Can you guys hosting a thread for CS 2014 please post your links?

If anyone has suggestions for a tee shirt design, and you want me to make something post your ideas! I tossed one together on my own last year (well with some encouragement) but I'd like more input this year. The shirts would require being purchased on a website.

Star Bright Farms breeds silkies. She has a website or on FB. She is in Brown City, but I have been known to transport for her! Let me know if you need me to pick up some chicks for you!!

Just love the video, Tap! Think your adorable hen is very happy with her buddy indoors!!

Tap, that was so cute - the world's feistiest silkie! Love the Ninja-kick.

As far as pigments in the skin, it is well established that birds with yellow skin will store pigments such as those found in corn (and other pigmented foodstuffs such as greens and marigold petals) there - a simple search for skin pigment will give you that information. White-skinned birds do not store the pigment in their skin (or legs if white-legged), but do in body fat. As yellow-skinned and -legged birds lay, the pigment is mobilized into the egg yolks and the skin will fade - one way of identifying good layers.

My rooster had got some frostbite on the tips of his comb and a lil on the bottom of his wattle. It was black, but now is turning a beige, much lighter color. Should i put blu kote or anything on it? It doesn't seem to bother him, but i don't know. It's just him, none of the girls have any.

Back from TSC in New Hudson/South Lyon.

They had shavings bales, both fine and flake. About 1/2 pallet of each.

Chicks:
Asst. bantams Straight Run
Cornish X
Wellsummers Straight Run
Jersey Pullet
ISA Brown Pullet

Well, she made the night; still has appetite for food but refusing liquids. So, i dug out my old rabbit crate out of the snowbank and stuck her in that with some yogurt chick feed mixture. She nibbled quite a bit and got a little liquid in. Gave her some bits of banana, she didn't protest too bad over the cage. Need to keep her off solids until the blockage is gone!!! Still pooped a normal poop. Baffled! Her crop lump is bigger than 2 golf balls and quite solid. Think she stuffed too much scratch and quit drinking??? It feels like putty, not pellets or grain like usual. Still no souring yet either.

It'll heal right up...as long as there's no swelling or infection, and is probably past the point that would happen by now.

I had one guy get quite a large patch of black on a wattle a month or so ago, if you didn't know what to look for you'd probably never notice it.
