Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Great... I will never be able to go into the tools dept and look at them the same again... AND THEN, I have a top crack to rival any mans crack... And if that can hatch eggs, I wonder if it could hide a scroll saw....

Nice door... Thats a weird looking goat too... the one right there ^

LOL, I know, you would be amazed with the things people would do.... I got tons of stories. SO... if your sales person at the desk may not be that perfectly pleasant, it could be that they just had to clean the bathroom after some A-hat smeared their excrement all over the walls..... yes we had them at the store too! Though if I ever had to clean that up, I would just hand them my vest and walk out the door!

the weird goat is our old goat mastiff, Delta.

So... whose chickens were crowing at 2:30am this morning? Not mine... Nope couldn't be mine...

Dear neighbors,

I am sooooo sorry for the false sunrise this morning. Who would like to come over for some fresh chicken dinner tonight?

Sincerely,

BYFM

My question is: should I paint the interior of the new coop?
Paint... HD has animal safe paint for $13 or 15 a gallon. Or you can just use exterior paint. SO WORTH IT!
I've noticed that they are all beat up ... I'm assuming from pecking at each other at night ... I was thinking of "Free Ranging" them during the day to give they more room to roam .... any Ideas or sugestions?
Molting? I have a portion of my yard fenced off just for the chickens... Now that i have had my first hawk experience, the little ones stay in the enclosed run until I can go out and supervise. I have, also, created more spots ffor them to hide under.
I think she just might spend the winter here.
Maybe she doesn't know she can fly... She needs some lessons!

Wait... you have hatched eggs in your top crack?

Awesome! I tried once... it didn't work. And after hearing exploding egg stories, I am glad I gave up before that happened!!

Beware the spartain canned pumpkin this year! My last can had sand in it. Bleh.
Last year the libby brand had sand, this time i ended up buying the big can of libby's after the sandy pie, and it was good.

Idk what's up with that, but definitely take a test bite of the pumpkin before doing the pie!

Anyone else also eat Quaker instant oatmeal, notice the huge amount of wheat husks in the oatmeal? Down right nasty!

I just made Meijer chicken noodle soup and the chicken bits had bone in them!!!
One here and there wouldn't be so bad but every peice was gritty... gross.
They probably just grind up the whole darn thing... "no one will notice"

Wood rack has been rebuilt, re-braced and reinforced. All that firewood has been re-stacked too.
I measured the dimensional lumber...when did they start making them even smaller? A 2x4 used to be 1 3/4 by 3 1/2. Now it's 1 7/16 by 3 3/8. Some stuff out of Canada that isn't even stamped SPF. What gives?

I have the wood stove chimney thimble run through the wall and half fast attached. I decided I can do a nice finish trim if I remove some siding and do some cladding in aluminium, but I don't have a brake. So I'll wait a day or 2 and have a piece bent up at a local siding shop. It's supposed to rain tonight so I put the chimney cap on the thimble. I wonder if that will get me a code violation?

I bhaven't been on the site in quite a while. I was out driving and went by a farm that had their chickens "Free Ranging" in the yard .... the birds looked great! I have a friend in the area that free ranges his birds also ...

I have a dozen hens that I've had for a year and a half. I keep them in a coop that is 7' x 8' at night. They have a automatic door that opens in the morning and they come out to a run that is 7' x 16' ...

I've noticed that they are all beat up ... I'm assuming from pecking at each other at night ... I was thinking of "Free Ranging" them during the day to give they more room to roam .... any Ideas or sugestions?
They are missing feathers on their chests & on the base of their backs ... I think that they are picking at each other in the coop at night.... I don't think that it is molting.
