Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Good Morning.

to the newbies!! I've got a couple of roosters I need to get rid of also. I went to the bad neighbor and told him sorry about the roos and that I was looking for homes for them. He then told me not to worry, they don't bother him!

He's the one that called the ordinance on me a couple of years ago!! But the new neighbors didn't seem to happy about them. So, still looking for homes for two beautiful bantam favorolle roos.
I also remembered to e mail the guy about the gamps. Hopefully you all do too. Need to stop the stupidity.

Great day to work in the gardens. Have a good day, all.
No worries i'm coming to get both those beautiful boys tommorow Thanks in advance

I'm so happy they are going to have a good home!! It's really cool how they have matured and are taking care of their flock. One covers the front and the other is in the back. It's just amazing how they just know how to do thier job.
See you in the morning!

I sure have some pitiful looking birds. I Welsummer rooster has just one single feather in his tail. Many of the hens are bobtailed and most have new feathers growing in that still look like porcupine quills. Sure will be glad when this molting is done.

Rain coming in tonight with falling temperatures but it is supposed to be out of here by morning. David is going to be here at 5am and he and I will head for Lyon and the Grand River. While there is a chance the salmon might be that far upstream the main reason is to learn the section of river between Lyon and Ionia. Having the opportunity to get out with one of my sons makes for a good day, and should the salmon or steelhead be in the day will be just that much better.

I've noticed that they are all beat up ... I'm assuming from pecking at each other at night ... I was thinking of "Free Ranging" them during the day to give they more room to roam .... any Ideas or sugestions?
I free range my flock. They have a huge yard to roam in and I still have a good handful of them that look so sorry and beat up. Do you have a roo? I know they can cause some hens to look rough, but I have also seen one of my girls purposefully peck at and pull out a few feathers of another who attempted to get to the treats before her. It was a pecking order sort of thing. If you do decide to free range just make sure they have ample areas of coverage to hide if they need to.

Another problem I have is random people stop and look at my birds all the time. Yesterday we had a young couple stop and look and take pictures... That is kinda a freaky, but it happens...
I get so nervous when people do that here. It's like 'what is that person doing?' 'why are they driving so slow?'. My son saw someone just yesterday pulled over looking into our yard. He said the person made a move to leave when he looked at him, but then he didn't go so my son started to walk over and the guy took off. Don't like that at all.

I just made Meijer chicken noodle soup and the chicken bits had bone in them!!!
One here and there wouldn't be so bad but every peice was gritty... gross.
They probably just grind up the whole darn thing... "no one will notice"

I never eat the chicken pieces out of any canned chicken soup. It just isn't right. DH laughs at me when I pick it out, but hey, that's how I am.

I might just be at that stage. You get what you pay for i guess... I like the chunky soups and this time I got the cheap stuff... Never again!
I love making my own soup but I only get in the mood to do that when it is really cold... not that I am looking forward to cold weather

I am guilty of being a chicken peeper. I like to look at other setups, see what kind of birds they have. Mostly i just enjoy seeing them in action. :) Don't stress it, approach them and they just may be a new friend. Just beware of anyone being too friendly to the kids, but not to you because you never know what a perv could use as a tactic. :(

All good then. Unless they look hungry!!!

Perhaps this is a reasoning behind selling eggs roadside.............eat the eggs, not the chickens! ha ha ha
