Happy Friday! 43 degrees here and out finishing the coop!

Well here is a problem with the deep litter method in the coop. It seems that the Ams think they are pirates and want to bury their treasure. Rather than use the nest boxes, they excavate deep holes, lay the egg and cover the hole. Every day for a week now, I have to sift through 16 inches of straw and shavings to find the little treasures. So today while on hands and knees, a Marans hops on my back and starts walking around. A regular chicken massage.
Shoveled more water today. Turned the filter-pump back on for the pond. I could see a few fish slowly moving around ice hole so they got a few pellets of food.
Assessed the winter damage...looks like I'll need new roof panels for the patio. Also noticed a few rotted trim pieces here and there. Can't complain though, that patio cover is over 14 years old and the panels are usually only good for about 6 years or so.

Spring is nigh, time for spring cleaning and clean up. Any volunteers want to help?

Yep. Mine does the same thing. Along with a few others that don't have any patience for their "fav" nest box. My EE, Partridge, is one of the pirates AND likes to give back massages.
