@gladahmae So glad your pup is doing ok.! I hope he continues to improve! Have a good vacation too.

@featherfun I'm just over the state line in OH, 1 county over. (Fulton county) Welcome to BYC!

@taprock Sorry about your girl. I was thinking cocci until I finished reading your post, I can't imagine what it would be. Did you read anything in Fuzzy's notes. She's always got those helpful links and note on her page.

@Candy442
 - I lived on Mulberry for a long time growing up at 16 & gratiot. Late 80's and early 90's

@DimondaleBergs
 -Have a cousin right by you. Such a small world. We were gonna stop by and see her on our way to chickenstock this yr since were never in the area.

@crazyforchix
 and @ rfournier-Welcome

@Elyssia001
 -Would they maybe just go into hibernation like plants and seeds do? Maybe if u call a nursery, they can tell you.

@HollyDuckFarmer
 - My muscovy duck has been in the Campbell's dog house for 2 days. They are all almost a yr old now. Do you think she may be broody and if she is and stays in there, how do I clean or anything or do I just leave her alone? Will she just keep laying an egg a day while she's in there? Was hoping for a broody hen, but some baby ducks would be cute too. lol I don't even know if she's on her egg or the campbell's, there can only be 1 or 2 eggs cuz i collect everyday. Thanks for any help

Capac allows- Cows and Pigs and Chickens and that's how you get CAPAC   Even in town on a small lot you can have 3 hens, no roosters. I'm outside of town (actually in Mussey twp) and luckily zoned agriculture. I've never looked up what my limit is or anything, but everybody here has animals, lots of goats too

She might be broody. Make her get up so you can see. Or don't. Up to you. :) she's not leaving at all?

I know people ask this occasionally and I must never pay attention to the answer but I was wondering if anyone in west MI or mid MI hatches heritage meat birds.  Doesn't matter much what breed, just not the usual cornish cross.  I was just going to order some CC but after slaughtering my extra roos last year we found that they had more than enough meat on them for our family of five so I really don't need that extra meat, just a small tasty bird.  I'd rather get a heritage breed therefore but would prefer not to ship.

My heritage Buff Orpingtons are huge! They make great meat birds.

Welcome to all newbies!

one of the reasons I picked faverolles was because they're suppose to be a tasty bird... and I tend to agree.

I sent my hubby to TSC earlier today to see if there were any meat chicks on sale (I had to work) ...came home to 20 one week old Freedom Rangers that cost 25¢ a piece! Finally I get a deal, yay!

The funny thing was that not even the tsc workers knew what Freedom Rangers were, I had told them on Sunday when I was in there buying my first five for $1 each. Jeff said that today all the other chicks were mostly sold out and there was still a bin 3/4 full of these guys. Well their loss is my gain, I wish I could take them all but I'm NOT butchering 50 birds at a time again...my back hurts just thinking about it.

Hi All,

I've got an internship this summer working with poultry which means I have to give up my flock so if anyone is interested I have:

1 Year olds
1 pekin drake
2 Cayuga ducks
3 easter eggers
1 black australorp

2 Year olds
2 production reds
2 easter eggers
1 buff orpington
1 silver laced Wyandotte
2 barred rocks

I'm located in Durand, Mi which is between Lansing and Flint off I69

I'm new to chicken-ing and have wanted an Easter Egger -- could you send me a few pictures of your one-year olds and a brief bio?

Our TSC doesn't have squat right now. Two bins with a smattering of feathering pullet assortment that looked distinctly like one breed per bin, leghorn and australorps. And that's ALL they had. I'll think on the other two options, thanks for the suggestions.

But question. Where is TSC getting freedom rangers? I thought Townline didn't carry them.
