Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

They in cardboard box brooder. Lol. Cleanin it 3-4 times a day. Gonna expand the brooder area in couple days. I plan to give them a shallow area to swim. But it have to be supervised swim time as they are with the chicks. Everyone seems to be doing good

Today is beyond stressful for me. I'm trying to get the house completely clean, and 3 little boys packed for vacation when one of my dogs decides to start puking. I managed to get him out the door before i had to clean anything up, and look out the window in time to see him passing blood. Quick call to the vet and had him in within 30 minutes. And that was 3 hours ago and they haven't called me to update anything yet. This is our YOUNGER dog....ya know, the one that's NOT supposed to have major health issues (we also have a going-on-11 year old that I expect will begin having health issues any day). So I'm baking up a storm and cleaning everything in sight so I don't completely lose it right now. As it is, my toddler was walking around yelling and looking for the dog a little while ago.....they are buddies.
I'm so sorry.....stinky scenario.....hard things are so much harder with kids...
...I'd call the vet, 3 hours seems a longtime with no update for a pup that's pooping blood.

My vet would be lucky to have an hour to stablaize the dog and I'd be calling. Don't wait cause they can get distracted by other clients etc.

I don't know why those types of things have to happen when you're going on vacation... or finally get some cash saved up .,,,,,,, and BAM! Someone get sick, something breaks... Hoping that it is nothing serious with your pup and he'll be ok.....................and that you have a fantastic vacation.

I applied for a position at the botanical gardens. The job description reads like a day in my life, minus the chickens.
I wonder how many hurdles there may be in applying for a job with the university.

Hopefully there's not a check box for: Convicted Agricultural Criminal....lol
Hope my sense of humor does not offend.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all of the good thoughts! I definitely needed some positive energy today. He's got a couple of probiotics to take for a few days and a 10 day course of intestinal antibiotic/anti-inflammatory to take. Glad it doesn't appear to be anything more serious than that. No ideas as to what the "real" root of the problem was, and of course now our house/chicken/dog sitter has to deal with giving him meds.

It was 1 here this morning, and I was too preoccupied to even remember to go check for eggs. I wonder how many frozen ones I have......

Good news for the pup! Frozen is right! Sap stopped running till further notice but this gives me a chance to catch up boiling. My duck started laying again, yay, frozen egg, not so yay. Of 24 hens I got a bountiful 3 eggs today, yay not so much...

I know people ask this occasionally and I must never pay attention to the answer but I was wondering if anyone in west MI or mid MI hatches heritage meat birds. Doesn't matter much what breed, just not the usual cornish cross. I was just going to order some CC but after slaughtering my extra roos last year we found that they had more than enough meat on them for our family of five so I really don't need that extra meat, just a small tasty bird. I'd rather get a heritage breed therefore but would prefer not to ship.
