Chick Questions of Late:

Once the brooder reaches my house temperature (we usually keep the house between 68 and 70), do I just turn the heating lamp off and replace it with a regular lamp to control lighting throughout the day? I know the chicks can go outside all night once its 50 degrees, but that's not predicted until late May. I don't want to waste electricity, but I want them to get used to the temperatures before going outside!

My silver-laced wyandotte has a crooked side-toe. It looks like its just curling backwards. She walks just fine and will fly and roost okay too. She is almost a month old, but I didn't know if I should be fixing it or not. I don't plan on showing any of my birds -- just have them for pets and egg-laying. The picture below isn't a picture of her, but it is most like her side-toe curling.

Thanks, everyone, in advance!

any one know if FFH has any in GR? plan to call TSC in Greenvilleand Sparta,,,, really wanted to clean out smaller coops tomorrow

Welcome to the newbies!!

more chicks in Lowell, had some straight runs and pullets marked down to 25 and 50 cents.

Reminder to everyone who cant find shavings due to a shortages. ..

Equine fresh is definitely usable! The pelleted kind! Lay bags in coop and cut a huge X on it and wet it down. It will poof up and can be a good bedding untill shavings is back in stock.

Both TSC & FFH is working hard to get them back in stock here in MI.

I hope you get the job raz!

Happy the pup is doing better. Puzzling!

Crooked toe is supposed to be s vitamin deficiency, insufficient breeding rations for themother hen, or from being raised on wire

Tonight's forcast for cokpersville : 9. 9!!!:-[

Did you try FFH on Plainfield or TSC in Cedar Springs? FFH had some when we were there a week ago.

Today has been one of extremes. From near white-out conditions to brilliant blue cloudless skies. Strong breezes and eerie stillness.
Through it all, life goes on.
Just ask this guy.

Darn, she was up and out last night and I checked this morning and there was 1 egg, but she's not sitting on it apparently. This is only the 3rd egg i think she has laid in a month. Although she's not quite a yr old yet and i know muscovies don't lay eggs like the Campbell's do. Thanks
Well 'tis still early days... I don't think I'd allow mine to sit for a few weeks anyway. Plus the eggs I'm finding outside have little tiny freeze cracks, so they wouldn't go anyway. So you're hatching this year if your duck commits? You'll have to get over go Miss Lydia's Old Fashioned Broody Duck Thread for 2014 :)
