Aww. She looks so happy!

I am still adjusting to 1st shift. All the snow and single digits aren't helping! Birds are breathing heavy too, really worried and just want spring!!!!!!

Stacykins, mine were doing it during the worst of winter. Now it is only occasional; idk if it is the weather, sunlight, or the bumped up feed quality. The worst offender is 2 this summer, i don't think the oyster shell was absorbed good for her on it's own. Dark leafy greens have tons of calcium so i am thinking that the severity of winter without even an occasional yard forage...???? Anyway i addec the manna pro omega supplement and i wet their food pellets and mix it all together. Birds love it.

Now the other offender is my mini booted girl left in the house, she runs all over looking for egg until one comes out and goes t rex on it. Ticks me off! Can't stop her and diet did not help.

Spring should not consist of snow and record cold. Yet, here I sitting looking at a temperature reading of 8 degrees and still dropping. To continuing carping about it seems pointless but like everyone I meet it seems to be the main topic of conversation.

Yesterday I got a call from the equipment company that we bought the dozer from informing me that they would be at the farm in about 30 minutes. I wasn't expecting it until Friday so it was a surprise that changed what I had planned. By the time I arrived the truck was just pulling away and our new acquisition was sitting just off the road. While I would have liked to spent some time becoming familiar with it, With snow laden wind gusting driving it behind the barn was practice enough.

That's sweet Daron! She does look fulfilled for lack of a better word. The instinct is strong with this one Five of the eggs you sold me have endured and are ready to hatch in the next day or so. Excited.

My poor showgirl hen had been sitting on the eggs for almost 5 weeks now, and all the eggs were bad, I felt sorry for such a dedicated hen, so I went to the Sparta Elevator and brought 5 newly hatched fuzzy chicks for her.

I'm so jealous of all of you with broody hens! We are bringing home chicks this weekend and I would much rather have a hen raise them, lol

Does anyone have any fertile guinnea hen eggs or muscovie duck eggs they are willing to sell /ship.. i will be traveling to saginaw from oscoda on april 2. if your close to sag.. i can pick up eggs.. really wanting to use either of these eggs for my next hatch.. if anyone can help me out i would appreciate it.. thank you

I have a pair of muscovies I have seen mating and 2 khaki campbell's. They are laying in the same nest so I don't know whose is whose or how to tell if their fertile, before I crack them open and eat, lol. I don't mind saving them for you if you'd like, but you would have to let me know how.

I got a bag of Guardian Horse Bedding from FFH a few weeks ago. It said small and medium pine shavings and is in the same size bag as the other pine shavings. I really like it, there is almost no dust from the new chicks using it and seems to be absorbing the smell great.

I had my chicks under the heat lamp for 4 wks now, dropping it 5 each week. I actually put board games under the tub and took 1 away each week in order to lower it another inch or two. I'm switching them to a dog crate today with no added heat, but still in the house. I was thinking 2-4 wks and then put them outside. My DH still has to build a grow out pen and I will section off part of the run so once their outside they can be by the other hens but not in with them yet.

I have a homeschooling mom coming over today that asked if she could bring her kids for a field trip on learning about chickens. I thought that was so awesome. I don't have much, but I printed off some stuff, have pics of the chicks a month ago and how cute and fuzzy. Then they'll see how they look today, not so fuzzy, but still a lil cute and then we can go out and see the adult hens and 1 roo and 4 ducks. I'm sooo excited.

speaking of broodies............. I have 3 hens all crammed into one nest box.... all 3 broody. Apparently they did not get the memo that I'm trying to cut down my chicken numbers.

Well the pup seems to be on the mend. Acting totally normal now, though he's off his food a little and I have to put his meds in peanut butter to get him to take them.

The hens are finally starting to up production, I've gotten at least 10 eggs the past 4 days so I suppose I can stop threatening them with the crockpot. Who knows what they'll do NOW though since it was -7 here this morning. Come in spring! We're ready already!!!!!
