Tori- so sorry about having to cull the baby, you've got more backbone than I do.
Farmerboy- Oliver is sooooooooo cute. I am not getting goats, I am not getting goats,I am not getting....
So, when I went out today to open my coops so they could have some run time, I found 1 large Delaware hen and 1 white guinea splattered with bood, the coop wall splattered with blood and a few other chickens & guineas with blood spots, but couldn't find any injuries. In this coop I have a pair of tiny bantams, 5 partridge bantams, the 2 delawares I got from jake, a white topped polish and 7 last fall's guineas (I had 9 but had to remove 2 due to being picked on). The chicken and guinea with all the blood splatters look like they were perched under whoever was bleeding. BUT I CAN'T FIND A VICTIM.
Thats fine, I hadnt either. But I had a bad experience this time. It happens.
edited to clarify that I'm just a little upset he would include a bird like that because it was obvious when I picked them up that he inspects each one. My experience is obviously my own and I'm glad others havent had the same experience.
You can add a surname now...... Uggo Pegleg!
Wonder if you can find a smaller hollow rubber ball?......handball? ...tiny small dog 'tennis' ball, I've seen those at the pet store.
I've often wondered about the cost of the fuel to boiling down sap to syrup.
Wonder how the cost of propane or natural gas would (wood haha) compare to using purchased firewood?
Quote: Ohhh, it's half the size of regular tennis ball....I read it as 'half a tennis ball'....good its working.
Maybe once the stump had toughened up you can take it off...friend of mine has a one footer, she gets around OK, often flies instead of walking.
Maybe separate the roo, lock him up. Friend had her roo start this with a hen recently, tried healing up and reintroducing 3 times....roo's on his way to the pot.For about 2 months my rooster has been going after my delaware. The other hens don't bother her, just the rooster. So she just sits on the top roost all day and night. I give her water from a bowl and food from my hand 3x a day. Sometimes I shut the poop door with roo in the run so buff can walk around and stretch her legs. I was hoping it was because of winter and when they could free range more, it would all go back to normal. I took her down off the roost a few times and roo comes right in a just attacks her, I shew him away, but as soon as I start to walk away he does it again. The f;lock was quite a ways away at my neighbor's yesterday and I seen buff jump down and go out to roam and scratch and somehow roo was there in a minute, he holds he down and pulls the feathers out of her head and pecks her comb till she's bleeding and as soon as she can get up, he does it again and again till she can get back up on the roost or I go out there. Is there anything I can try? I love my roo, he is a good guy other than this, my delaware is only 9 mos old and is laying eggs now, so I want to keep her. Maybe it would be best if i found her a new home, but she's so stressed now, I'd hate to stress her even more.
Look, I thought this was a safe place for me to come vent my disappointment. Obviously I was wrong. Its not worth getting a refund at $2/chick for me. And it definitely did not happen in my care. My niece was holding the box on the way home and found that one and I couldn't inspect him til we got home 2.5 hours later. I seriously doubt he missed it. My guess is that's why it was in his cull box. As he was getting the chicks out he was pointing out the most minuscule details to me as to why they were rejects, such as a black feather here or there. He also made a big point to tell me not to expect them all to live. With the attention to detail he paid them I highly doubt he just happened to miss an eyeless chick. So yeah, I'm disappointed and went somewhere that I thought people might understand. If he inspected each chick, he either simply missed it or the loss of the eyes happened once they were in your care....... If you are unhappy about it, send him an email and let him know you ended up with a chick with no eyes and had to cull it.. Let him make good or not. I don't see why it would have to be confrontational. Maybe he would simply refund your money for that chick.
