That is to bad, you are right at 5 days he should have known. NOT good for his reputation for sure

Look, I thought this was a safe place for me to come vent my disappointment. Obviously I was wrong. Its not worth getting a refund at $2/chick for me. And it definitely did not happen in my care. My niece was holding the box on the way home and found that one and I couldn't inspect him til we got home 2.5 hours later. I seriously doubt he missed it. My guess is that's why it was in his cull box. As he was getting the chicks out he was pointing out the most minuscule details to me as to why they were rejects, such as a black feather here or there. He also made a big point to tell me not to expect them all to live. With the attention to detail he paid them I highly doubt he just happened to miss an eyeless chick. So yeah, I'm disappointed and went somewhere that I thought people might understand.

Tori, I'm sorry this happened. It's disappointing that you got an unhealthy chick. It must have been terrible to have to make the decision to end the chick's suffering.

I think what folks are objecting to here is that you used a really well known breeder, and shared his name. And while venting is fine here, we want you to give the breeder a chance to make correct this, so that you're satisfied, and so you can "clear his name" here.

The roo is great at hawk alerts and never has picked on anyone else. Also good with grandkids, I would probably get rid of her before him, unless he were to do it again to another gal, he really protects them well.

we had that issue with our younger cockerel picking on my big white chantecler..he didnt bloody her but gave her a naked neck grabbing her there and pulling her around. She started to fight back because she is sweet on my other EE rooster.. he leaves her alone and now most will fight back if he gets too rough. Our delaware is the sweetest girl and he is over her ALL the time... she eventually started to pick back so now he takes it easy....i would keep the layer if long separation of rooster from flock doesnt cure him.

@tori

It's understandable that you are upset over this incident. But It's not cool to become so defensive. Everyone is trying to help you. It is not confrontation to let the breeder know. Think about it; if you were a breeder and accidently missed something like this, would you not be horrified and want to make right? I know I would.

We're all human and prone to mistakes. So please consider forgiving the man his mistake and letting him know what happened. I know I would appriciate someone letting me know if I were him, and I am sure you would too if you were in his shoes.

I just dont even know how to begin the conversation. "Hey, remember those chicks I picked up Saturday? One of them was eyeless." UGH. I am not a people person. This is why I have animals!

You can feel free to vent all you want.......... I didn't realize you would be sensitive to suggestions intended help remedy the situation. My mistake.

Lets just let this topic go folks. There is no point in taking it further.

I guess maybe I understand both sides of this, but from personal experience, if you aren't willing to name names, then don't complain. The lesson I took from this is that I should always inspect a chick I intend to buy. Thanks for the suggestions about the blood splatters, I'll check feet, combs, and feathers again. How come they changed the format (?) no multiple quotes and when you reply, what I see is a bunch of computer speak instead of the post I am replying to.
