Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I've read that with EE's the pea combs have 1 row of bumps if female and 3 rows of male...not sure what age it shows up clearly or if it's even true.
Anyone else know about this?

Thats what i read to. But this first time raising pullets, i raised meat birds years ago in 4h. Guess i just impatient lol.

Glad your mama is feeling better -- I'm sure her pregnancy and delivery were both quite something for her.

Enjoy your new little ones!

Thanks everyone for the input on the brooder light. My four chicks are 5 weeks, so I'm gonna try turning it off during the daytime and leaving it on at night if they need it. When can I start feeding them scraps? And what can I feed them? They are pecking and scratching at everything. When DH and I let them out to roam on the hardwood, they keep trying to eat lint, cat hair, any crumb they find. I'd like to give them some good scraps for them when the time comes!...just not sure when!

Our raised garden bed is finally all visible! I think I'm gonna head out tomorrow (if it doesn't rain) and try to break some of the ground up. I remember some past years around this time it was still cold, but maybe it just feels worse this year because of all the snow? What a blessing yesterday was!

You might want to get a few different breeds to evaluate along with the aussies, see which you like best.

Unfortunately, in my municipality, I am limited to only 3 hens, and no roos. I could get one each of 3 different kinds, or try different breeds as mine age and go into the stew pot.

@Nigellas , pretty hens!

Silly, thanks for posting an adorable photo. 5. Woah. Talk about your bang for your buck. ;) Hope mama and her kids have a good week, and that you have some backup help.
