Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Sphagnum is very mold resistant, bot the Long Fiber Sphagnum moss, and the Sphagnum peat. Maybe top-dressing your terrariums with them would inhibit mold growth.

Come on over to Holland!

We've been "okayed" for chickens in the city! While its not a lot of chickens (maximum of 6, but I think you can sneak in a few bantams), its definitely a win!

Happy Thursday!

My town only allows 3 hens, and it is a much smaller town than Holland. Next town over has the same regulations. I need to look into changing that! I want more than 3 chickens!

This a lil 2x2 nest box JAMMED PACKED full of broody cochin bantams.
There is 14 total in there! Lol
wow...you win the how many birds can fit in a nest box award!!

I had 3 hens in one box, checked on them yesterday and saw that one had been chased out and another killed in the box. Either she was smothered or pecked. The hen in there now is down right nasty!

You may want to start de-brooding some of them by forcing them outside during the day. Don't allow them back in the coop till night time. I'd hate for you to lose some birds too.

Bald Cypress grows in Michigan? I may actually have on in my yard. Used to live in FL where they were everywhere, but when I moved back up here, I had something very similar in my yard, doubted it would be a bald cypress, even though that part of my yard is wet enough.
This is the northernmost reach of their range. There is a great specimen at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor.

Mine was a cultivar from Ohio but I think I damaged it when I transplanted it to my rain garden last fall.

Ok if this article is true... then I guess I plant more broccoli inside the coop area for the chickens to range on! They like it, it will grow better, advantage taken!! Looking for the positive.;)

I've read all the cold vs warm. And yes our sunspots have a great deal of effect on our climate! We just need to learn to adapt. We still need to get our CO2 emissions under control so we can all breathe a little easier.
