Break time.

The entire front yard is cleaned up and respectable. Small controlled burn went off without a hitch. Even the sidewalk, driveway and street are free of winter debris. I don't think the bald cypress survived the winter though.

Bee hives have been inspected and moved to a new location. Packages should be here soon.
Bald Cypress grows in Michigan? I may actually have on in my yard. Used to live in FL where they were everywhere, but when I moved back up here, I had something very similar in my yard, doubted it would be a bald cypress, even though that part of my yard is wet enough.

Species? Anyone?

Paper wasp, or bald-faced wasp at best guess.

I think it depends on what kind of plants you put in them, for sunlight. I prefer the woodsy types, moss and ferns, which don't require direct sunlight. And they do occasionally need to be opened for trimming and a little water. Most plants will grow too large and need a pruning and most containers leak at least a little moisture. My biggest problem with them is mold. You have to keep everything completely sterile while assembling and given that most plants and dirt have a lot of surface area to hold spores, that's a tough job. Almost all of my attempts have suffered at least some mold. Right now I have two in the window that are "open" terrariums. I'm in love with moss though.

I have a "raz" question: i have the idea of making a terrarium. Latest thing? I thought perhaps it would be nice. Buuut they usually call for sealing the container up afterwards? I don't know if it would be sustainable without direct sun
I have had a terrarium for 4 years now. It has an African Violet, a silver hypoestes, some moss, and a teeny gnome and chicken statue. I open it every 4 months or so for snipping plants back, and to wipe the inside of the glass. Ours has indirect sun..

Come on over to Holland!

We've been "okayed" for chickens in the city! While its not a lot of chickens (maximum of 6, but I think you can sneak in a few bantams), its definitely a win!
