Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

hi, my names Wild Rooster. I'm an Old English Game lover from near the "base of the thumb."
Hi wild Rooster welcome

Seems like I have been working non stop this week. Gladly, after today, I will have 2 whole days off work to catch up on things around the house.

Raz, that stove looks great! Are you opening window(s) far away from the stove? It will help to pull the warm air through the house.

Had a storm blow through last night. We sleep in the basement, and even there we could hear it blowing and crashing around. When it gets light enough, will be interesting to see if there was any damage.

Stacykins, if you try the mustard, let us know if it works.

Hate to hear about a good laying hen having to be culled.

Taprock I thought of your son when I saw this

Wish we were closer.

Raz - I'm reading the news this morning and it says the farm bill is being postponed and not voted on in November. Is this the one you have been talking about? They said the big issue was food stamps?

Really??? In a farm bill. I don't get politics.

I know it could rain all month and it would be good but at this point I am tired of the rain. Or if it just warmed up and rained that would be ok too. I climbed around my coop last night in the dark with a headlamp on and medicated all of the chickens. Very easy at night except the ones in the rafters. I don't want to end up fighting mites again, so I'm going to try to do all the preventative things and stay ahead of them.

I forget who asked to see my wood stove...

Notice that I have new blinds? No more crooked, broken slats, VJ.

LOVE the stove, you will to, ...2 of my brothers heat with wood stoves, gets so warm they have to open doors. you may have to make sure you have heat in the basement so you don't have burst pipes.....we just had a combustion wood burner into our fire place, the old insert had rusted out,,,, hope to heat the whole house, cost so much though, we should have put one outside.... like the idea of heating the water too.

maybe you should shoot the gun in the air, neighbors might get the message before you have to shoot their dog

Rooster, Welcome!!!

That is the federal farm bill that was nearly agreed upon before they took summer vacation. The current farm bill expires on September 30 and could negatively affect farmers across the country. There are a lot of factors in the bill with food stamps being a relatively small portion (from what I read). I don't get politics either.

Regarding the stove...this little sucker cranks out the heat!

(not mad, just warm). I'm breaking it in slowly with duraflame logs. First was just one log, second fire I added a stick of oak and the fire this morning has a duraflame with 2 stick of maple. All the windows are open and it is still toasty warm in here.

The cat seems to like it.

When Opa posted about roasting tomatoes, I thought it sounded great, but I wouldn't have the opportunity to do that this year, because we had hardly any on the vine. But then my in-laws went on vacation, and gave me free range on their giant tomato plants. I want to preserve some of the tomatoes, and thought I'd give it a shot. But. I can't wade through 240 pages to find the post. Opa, or anyone else, would you mind taking 2 minutes and giving the instructions again, please?

bummed... all set to sell the silkie and sumatra roosters and they back out at the last minute... wife didn't want to spend 8$ on the sumatras... seems like they would have a little more value than the silkies...which they only wanted to pay 4$ for ea... I can do that with the silkies, but not the sumatra. I told them that I'll put them all in my freezer before I'll give them away. I guess it would be different if food costs weren't going up.

I just went on line and looked at sumatra prices.......... cheapest I found was 10$........ upwards to $2500....... I think $8 is MORE than fair!
