Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I yell come on, come on, come on and reward them with either food from a bucket I carry or a few BOSS. Started the first time by giving the evening meal of FF when in the coop before roost and saying it. Then do the same to call them in at night or when I want to leave and go somewhere.

Do the same often when outside just to get them to come and will drop a few seeds.

But now that spring is here (sort of) I just pick up the shovel and start digging.....LOL they know it means possible unearthing of goodies.

Lol... I give them some worms occasionally and grubs if I can find them. One of the buff Orpingtons (I so rudely nicknamed Gluttony:lol:) always is the first to get the treats. She gets kind of aggressive when other chickens try and get the treats sometimes. How do you get them to stop pecking each other?

What does BOSS and FF mean?

So i suppose the moral is be a chicken stalker
?
and food=love to chickens. Often i sit in my lawnchair off to the side and just *be* for hours to unwind from the day.

I have learned that the chicks that seek you out become adults that seek you out. Other than bloodline though my secret weapons are people foods and bananas, but only in small amounts once or twice a week. :) You can't NOT hug mine; they fly up on your lap and settle in. The roos try to walk up my front to lay over my heart and stick their faces under my chin....I am nuts about birds and i'm sure the idiot smile i get around them makes me endearing in their eyes. ;)

I understand completely, I sat in the chicken coop yesterday and one of my Welsummers immediately jumped on my shoulder and nuzzled under my chin because it was a chilly night. One of my EEs climbed up on my other shoulder, and he scared the Welsummer (named Earl Sloan due to C.W. McCall song :))
who then jumped up on my head! I just sat there, not really minding because I love being surrounded by chickens. :) they're just so sweet!

Today while away I had 6 guineas hatch, DH brought home 4 turkey's and he assisted two ducks in hatching...and I missed it! My first hatch that I haven't been around.

It's interesting here that none of the dairy farms/beef farms/poultry farms/hog farms/goat farms are 1,500 feet setback from anything.  Shall be interesting...I think I'll go to my next door neighbor who is running quite an operation and see what he thinks of all this since his family has been farming the area for two generations.
In the RTF workshop I attended, I learned that for older farms (if I remember right, before the 1980 something change) then they get RTF protection without gaamp compliance. GAAMPS compliance is optional for older farms... Nice, huh?

Prior to 1981 I think after looking for it.
If the farm came into existence after that, then GAAMPS are required to be followed for RTF protection..,

I have a broody Partridge Orpington. We'll see how serious she is.
This rain needs to stop for a few days. It's a mud pit out in the coop area.

I do have to listen to the audio of that...since my farm has been here since the 1890's !

Hello, I kinda have an emergency on my hands. I noticed a bloody poo in the pen where we have my 2 week old chicks, and since it was a first time occurrence and being an inexperienced new chicken owner, thought it would just pass. But this afternoon I noticed more bloody poos and looked up possible causes and found out that one or more of my chicks have coccidia. None of my chicks have been acting lethargic or anything, so I didn't really notice anything out of the ordinary before the bloody poo yesterday, but now my favorite chick is acting VERY lethargic and just stays in the corner all sickly acting. All the vet offices were closed by the time we realized we needed meds, and I'm sure if any of the others have coccidia that they will be fine till they can get the medication, but that one chick… I don't want to lose it, and so I was wondering if there is anything I can do to give it more energy or something to make it last till I can get it help. Please help!!!
