Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I've had that once and had to treat with Corid. Hopefully you are close to a farm store or vet. I did lose a couple when it happened. I think I brought it in from a feed store. Good luck!

I'm afraid that I'm probably going to lose that chick :'( It's the one that always jumps up on the side of the pen to greet me when I take care of them… but at least I know the rest will probably be fine. Going to get Corid in the morning for them.

Taprock i am jealous- i wish i had a husband like that!

Skinny dragon i am sorry. You did not know, you are running for meds, that is all you can do. Future chicks at your house should probably be on medicated feed just to be safe, but don't use the feed as substitute for meds and not together as it might be an overdose. I am sorry.

All I have to do is open the metal *trash can* lid where I keep the scratch and the entire flock, from whatever corner of the yard they are in, will come running. They're so funny when they run. It used to be a chore to get the birds back in their coop if I had to go somewhere. I used to keep all the feed and treats in the milk house and the treat can was never loud enough to get their attention. But the metal bin is like a gong and being inside their coop now, they come right in. Gets them every time.

If one of your chicks has coccidia then they all do. I agree that both these and future chicks should be treated. After treating the current batch with corid you could place them on medicated starter for another several weeks.

The word medicated bothers some people. This feed does NOT contain an antibiotic. Instead it contains a thiamine inhibitor, which limits the parasite's ability to multiply - it does not kill the coccidia, but reduces their numbers so that the chicks do not get sick. Birds still develop natural immunity to the parasite.

Well I made it to the island. It only took hours!

Another good day is underway. My phone just played "he takes his tractor another round" so I no my old friend is okay and I will be going to his house later this morning to take him some essential groceries. We had graded off an area behind one of the barns so I plant some grass seed and cover with straw. I'll probably spent a good portion of the day with him working on a variety of maintenance projects. Nothing real serious if addressed now but projects that he can no longer do on his own.

One more thing is necessary in order for this day to get underway, and that is for Granny to get up. I sometimes wished that she snored so that each morning I would know she is okay. Since she doesn't I just sit here waiting to hear her stirring.

Last night I candled the eggs I have in the incubator and the Vorwerk eggs all seem to be infertile. I won't take them out until lockdown just to be sure, but if that is the case one little rooster may be living on borrowed time. The Welsummer eggs are difficult to candle so I'm not sure what kind of hatch I will have with them. Oh well in 11 days I will know with certainty.

I made this map of my property (in red) and the new criteria that I do not meet, trying to make sense of it. Not sure if it's correct but this is the way I interpreted it. Let me know if I've got something wrong. I still don't understand what constitutes a "facility" exactly. Does pasture count? A farmed field? I measured the 1/8th mile based on my barn and the 250ft. based on the chicken coop (blue line). But friends/family are asking me how it all works and I'm much better at a visual description. The two big fields (upper right and lower left) are owned by the CAFO down the road.
