Try adding some Calcium Gluconate to her diet. Might help. A good source for you to PM is Amiga, she has been thru it and is excellent with formulas and measurements and mixing tonics. Hope your gal improves. I'll be off for awhile so won't be able to check back in, but hopefully the Ca Gluc will help her. :)
Hang in there RaZ. Thinking of you today.

Ok. I've been fighting with lice all winter. I thought I had them GONE finally, but after inspecting one of the girls yesterday, it appears I was WRONG.

Here is my plan of attack (though it doesn't seem to be getting the job done so far):

Using poultry dust, powder all bottoms, bellies, and under-wings of birds
Clean all litter out of coop (pitchfork and shop vac)
Spray inside of coop down with garden hose
Sprinkle poultry dust on floor
Put new litter in
Repeat in 10 days
I've also put poultry dust in the favorite dust bathing 'hole' once a week for a couple of weeks thinking it would help

Honestly, I'm also thinking about dosing everyone with ivermectin too, but I don't want to be stuck tossing eggs for a month, and I won't sell eggs during the withdrawl period. And there's no way we'll be able to eat 600+ eggs.

(Plus, that's a month's worth of feed "wasted")

In my OTHER pen, I have 1 ameraucana hen with OLD eggs stuck in her muffs/beard I can't figure out how to get rid of other than cutting her feathers. So if anyone has an easy fix for that I'd be interested in hearing about it.

Maybe BYC will be more cooperative tonight...I have some of the cutest pics & videos...(ok, ALL baby animal pix are cute; chicken or whatever!!) Maia was a "sweet" broody...would just make little clucking noises when I got near her...every other day or so I would coerce her to come out with a little scratch; then she would power eat, drink, scratch & dust bath..20-30 mins, then back to her eggs! Yesterday she got off the nest twice with her "kids"...

I've just tried an unconventional treatment that seems to have obliterated the lice my chooks had.
Thread on HT if you're interested.

Glad, technically you can eat the eggs on ivermectin; i give a week to be safe. IMO poultry dust is just as "bad" but not as effective. Still probably some absorbtion! I'd do it! It gets them gone in 3 days flat. For lice it is a one time dose, the second dose is for clearing up worms.

spreads her wings, but I really think its just because the run is too small.
I have some that like to fly over to get to the other side, however, only a couple , some have watched the cat and learned how to go under, your hard wire is much better from that stand point.

That's my fear, they'll come back with the warrant and police, and haul him and his canaries off...
They would do that too, just to keep him from Thursdays meeting

I went out and asked him to leave. He refused, saying that he wanted to look in my backyard and garage. I declined and asked him again to leave.

I called the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund for support in this matter. If you are not a member, please consider joining this organization that supports food freedom across the nation. Ivermectin is used to treat humans and is safe I would not sell eggs however as you do not know about alergies. also for mites it is 1 treatment
I usually use the liquid 7's and spray all cracks, crevices, and under roost's do it when hens are out.
If you are getting so many eggs I would deal as best as I could till fall when production drops then treat with Ivermec.

After my recent 2nd ordinance violation, the OO told me that they are bringing to the board to decrease amount of land needed to have chickens in Davison TWP. Davison can now have 5 hens in town. Me, with a acre and a third can't have any chickens! Neighbor with 10 acres can have 16 chickens! Isn't that unreal?? We're now in the process of putting up a fence to apease the new neighbor.

But, I can keep my chickens..
