Working for DoD for 25+yrs I have a true appreciation for all the sacrifices you made and/or make when you serve our country...and it is a long list...

I know, really ???

I live SO close to,Lansing (& can pretty much take a day off short notice or telework & take a long lunch) and all these last few meetings have been while I've been stuck down here in Dayton!

We got a letter in the mail that the tax assessor will be paying us a visit and wants to measure buildings and discuss history and any changes... etc... now I'm all paranoid. I hope they don't plan on changing my zoning or ruin our farm. We have not added or changed anything except for the goat shed we had gotten permission and had a distance inspection on already. So there is no point to them coming out. A few years ago they walked all over my yard and took pictures and snooped in windows etc. and jacked up my taxes because they assumed my 2nd floor was finished. (though you could plainly see the studs in the windows). I had since put up curtains to try to retain some heat and so my holiday led candles would look nicer. (the candles are still on and curtains are still closed). I'm worried that if I give them any kind of resistance now, they'll try to shut us down. But we are closing our curtains and gates during the day. I just don't like someone coming on to my land without me being there or inviting them.

My take away on this is - Hey, LED candles! We have had the regular crappy battery ones that I have to change the batteries in about every three days. What? Like 20 of the suckers. I looked at the LED leftovers after Christmas but when I decided to get them they were all gone. Pfft...

Oh yeah, they do that here alot. Property values went down here too. I think they go up again when GTE starts running the natural gas lines up my street this year.

My assessment, and taxes, went down a couple years in a row a few years ago....but it's gone back up again last year...not by much either way.
Think it was tied to the economy in general and as far as I know no one came to look at the property.

My sister just bought a new house in Metro Detroit, the assessment was adjusted to exactly the selling price....which is what always happens.

Here's a thought. I'm a veteran - 31 years active duty - one solid year in Iraq and the Persian Gulf. Mom and Dad were both in the Navy - Dad did 20 active - Vietnam with the Marines. I'm a member of VFW and we put flags on veteran's graves for Memorial Day. If you want, and have the time, go to the local VFW. or Legion, and find out when they will be at their designated grave sites and maybe help out, or thank them. More people than actual veterans made our country what it is. The families of veteran's sacrificed more in my opinion.

I'm worried about my 2nd broody. Went out after work and she was laying outisde of the nest kinda sprawled out. I got her out and took her to the waterer (she has one in the kennel too) and she wouldnt drink. But she did poop this yellow, foamy poop She kinda walked around for a bit, scratched then plopped down on the floor of the coop. I'm not sure what to do, she has me worried. Her butt is all poopy too but I checked and the vent looks good, so I dont know what I can do for her. She was fine this morning.

I got to waste the morning in court.
Apparently I am on double secret probation according to the judge. He was waving a piece of paper but would not let me read it. The ordinance nazi is POed because I would not allow him in my yard, garage and shed. Judge says I have 30 days to allow him to "inspect" or I will be criminally charged and face jail.
