Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I am disgusted by michigan's double standards. I AM glad i haven't bought a house yet, but if i didn't really love my job i'd end up in another more friendly state. :(

Quote: Very heartbreaking. I don't know how one gets through something like that. It would be so hard. Even sadder is that there really is no good reason for it.

I know what you mean Fuzzy. Michigan is such a beautiful state. I'm really hoping that all of this is sorted out sooner than later. Before we move back for retirement. But weatherwise we're now considering Tennessee. It's also small farm friendly.

Do we know for a fact that other states much more lenient in regards to right to farm than Michigan?
I have read that folks have this same problem in other states also.......don't let the 'grass is greener' lure into a patch of weeds.

Thank you chick whispers we call her their little mother hen she just adores them. My son however likes his 2 turkeys best they're very chill and he likes that.

Go North. Most of us above US 10 have'nt had much problems. I'm always seeing these types of post near Lansing and Detroit with the exception of Ludington whom had a recent battle. I'm in the middle of no whereville and just fine, love it. To say it's statewide is a wrong view imo.

I am 60 years old and had lived in Michigan my whole life - until last year. Fed up with taxes after taxes, lowered property values and poor police and fire coverage we moved to Tenn. It is so nice here, we no longer pay state and city income tax, propety taxes on our home are equal to what we paid on a house in the "hood" and the valu of it had dropped by 2/3. The house next door to our MI home sold at auction for $2,600. Meanwhile our home here was almost half of what an equal property would cost in MI and we have 10.4 acres and a nice 2100 sq foot house. There are no regulations and we can do what we want. I am amazed at how many people who live here are from MI.

I am sure other states have their areas and cities that have similiar issues as far as no animals in "town" type of ordinances. I think we hear more now because of the RTFA and more people are interested in knowing where their food comes from. For us the deciding factor will be the weather. We will locate rurally anyway, in the the midst of farm country. But I don't know how many winters like this last one we want to deal with. ( I am becoming a winter wimp). One more factor is we have over 22 acres in Michigan farm country bought and paid for, but the county has designated 11 of them as Residential...The 11 that we farm. The other 11 are woods and very hilly and rocky.
