Hi Michigan folks,
I just hatched chicks, and I found this. Any ideas how to fix it? I think its intestine.
could be herniated where the umbilical cord was attached to the yolk. I would wash it off with sterile saline rinse maybe and try to push it in...tack in the middle of the opening together with a drop of super glue (I wouldn't close up completely so it could drain)... then I'd spray blue kote on it to keep it from getting pecked. or you could just spray with blue kote and not do anything else and let it heal on it's own. I would def use the blue kote to protect it. I am not an expert, this is just what I would try.

4 pints of Strawberry preserves done.
Just finished mushing berries for a batch or triple berry (strawberries, raspberries & blackberries).

Then will vacuum seal the rest of the strawberries & freeze so I have them during the winter when I need to make more preserves ;)

I froze several quarts of strawberries and cherries, spread on cookie sheet until frozen then bagged up, to save for making jam when it's cooler.....have ended up snacking on them frozen, not sure I'll have any left for jam...lol!!

Lol. Raz, timothy hay does not smell like THAT. He smelled it, your stalkers smelled it, the judge is convinced you are hiding it- were i a betting person i'd say a close neighbor is growing it/ smoking it. Unless you have large patches of catnip!

LOL!
That's why I vacuum seal them & put them in the deep freezer in the basement...not as easy to grab one or two when they're vacuum sealed !

I could never freeze any, they would be gone to quick also. We usually do 2 flats and get around 40 pints of jam and sometimes we do 2 pies

. Then we do 20 pints of raspberries and 20 pints of blackberries in the fall and can you believe were already down to 1 jar only left. When my grandma was still with us, she had the most awesome wild grapes growing on her fence, they made the best jelly. I really miss those. Well happy canning everyone, love these few months we get. Oh ya, picked my 1st handful of jalapeno's yesterday and chickens are doing well in the garden so far.

Odor is one of the big factors that is cited for the prohibition of chickens or livestock in any given area. Even though aromas can be quantified by chemistry, the public reaction of "that stinks" carries a lot of weight. Never mind that it usually subjective.

Case in point. I am MAEAP verified as a farmstead operation and part of that verification is an OMP (Odour Management Plan). Part of the plan is asking neighbors and visitors if they smell anything. Today, the metre reader came by and I asked him if he smelled any foul odours. He sniffed a bit and then asked, "Are you growing weed? I smell ganja".

I had to laugh out loud. I told him that I had just spread out some hay. A nice bale of sweet timothy grass hay. I then showed him a bale of the hay. He took a deep whiff and proclaimed that it reminded him of home, back in Jamaica. So I guess that perception is a factor when it comes to aromas.

The nose is the strongest memory receptor.* big sniff* Ahhhhhh home
