Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Well
Almost done with the Simpsons marathon. Its been on since the beginning and haven't shut the TV off at all. It ends tonight at midnight and its been on for the whole time.

Thought I saw all of them but did see some I haven't. No I didn't sit all day everyday for all 552 episodes because of work however did not shut TV off or change the channel. Lol

Call me crazy but the network will see that I'm a true Simpson's fan here!

Lol

I forced large pill size bits of raw garlic down, a lot like pilling a cat or dog. I put the bird under my arm on my lap, hold the body/ head down (huggy not mean) with my one arm. One hand has to keep them from twisting away, one hand has to pull down on the wattles and beard & pop it in the beak, quickly grab the beak and hold shut or they will make like it is a watermelon seed!! Lots of "good boy" praise and petting. And don't think for a minute that birds aren't smart enough to hold it and spit when you sit them down; you gotta see the swallow!!! I think 3 the first couple days, now 2-3. Now he seems to get it is helping, i still have to stick it in his beak but he swallows them instead of trying to fling them :) it was my last hurrah, his breathing had gotten so gurgly he was gasping without strenouos movement, and choked trying to crow. Thought i was in for another vet bill...the other hen that has seemed a little off and is currently not laying is very aggressivly eating the garlic. (Same amount) i won't give more as i don't want to o.d.! I am going to continue this treatment for at least a couple weeks or more, since i don't have to worry like an antibiotic. I am letting my minis have a bit too, they seem to want it also. Probably make the eggs taste funny but i want all their lungs healthy for this winter we got coming. I am giving corn and conditioning supplement as well, trying to keep that dish full so they fatten up good too.

Also aquired a couple 3 week old baby ringnecks from the auction. Just the start of a ring, waiting anxiously for the rest. I have been googling to be sure, as angel looked just like these two as a baby. I have come to the sad conclusion he was part collared dove, part mourning dove. But he got spots and developed the distinctive mourning dove call. I am giving it a week and am strongly thinking it would be in my best interest to get the dnr over here to verify them- that way if some idiot calls i am covered. Anyone know how / where birds get banded??? I would like to do that as well. The older one likes people well enough but is a "hands off" bird. I may end up re homing him, maybe getting a mate for him first idk. I just knew these little ones were too young really to be sold to anyone inexperienced with baby doves.

So sorry, it's hard to loose a favorite especially.  Without a post mortem exam you'll never know.  Do it yourself if you can, or refrigerate her body and find someone who can tomorrow.  Again, so sorry.  Mary

So sorry Peep Chicken. Chickens hide their illnesses as long as possible so they don't get pecked. It is possible she'd been sick and not eating well for a time before. As Folly said you won't know unless you get a necropsy/post mortem. Again so sorry.

Ok thank you both. She is already buried, so I will know for next time (which I hope won't be for a while)

Hi, first time chicken keeper here (since April 2014). Anyone near Haslett? Would like to meet other people in the area from the board.

Hi everyone, I know I have become a lurker, Not much happening in my area except work. Which means I am boring!! LOL OK I have a customer who lives in St. Clr. Shores. They always buy eggs from me when they come up to their house here in Rogers. I said I would try and find a fresh egg source for them where they live. Anyone around there that sells fresh eggs?

Welcome Coopbuilder3. This is really a great forum!!
