Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I really miss getting on here and talking to the peeps! I guess it's been about 3, or 4 weeks. My son still has my laptop so I have to squeeze into my DW's office for this keyboard:(. I did see Mom and Silly on here. Hope Kimmie is still around. Is Raz, farmerboy, and Olive still out there? I got the last of Laura's (Hillbilly Hen) Marans and Olive Egger a few weeks back. If you are watching they are doing fine. I just finished a 60' by 60' by 6' high fenced in area and built a new house for my goat operation (ha ha). I rescued one awhile back and after the vet visits and money on the fencing, sawmill boards, posts, and lumber to build a 6x6 lean-to on 4x6 PT skids she's the most expensive goat known to mankind! Now I need to find another for a companion. Very soon (OMG) I need to start a new chicken coop as my birds are on my other property that I want to rent out. I wish there were two, or three, of me. I changed the water in my duck pond yesterday (about a 330 gallon unit) and thought what a long winter it'll be for KC without a pond. I've been letting him wander the garden as he loves (LOVES) cherry tomatoes! I have tons of corn stalks and pumpkins to harvest. We tied up 2 bunches for around the yard but the rest either gets chopped, or given away. If you were in the Muskegon area I'd give a bunch of corn stalks to you! What else? Deer season is here, need to go north for some salmon, busy, busy. Well, off for another few weeks. I do try and check PMs on my iphone, and emails but limit trying to do any catch-up on the social page. Miss the chatter - John (pop-pop).

P.S We never did hear back from Momma K about a wine store grand opening and or party? You still doing that?

Good Morning everyone!

We had a wonderful weekend- Saturday we drove out to Robins, had a great time and she fed us great. I came home with more Uggos and a serama and an OEGB.

She has such a nice place, and her chickens and critters are wonderful. She has SO much work to do every day, she is my hero. I will never be able to complain about going out in the cold to care for my ONE coop again without feeling guilty.

Absolutely love her horses and sheep and peacocks and chickens and turkey and quail...and what am I forgetting? Ah, sabertooth tigers.

I LOVE my new little Chicken Little and Bird. They are settling in very well- the baby Uggos are still under a heat lamp so they are seperated, but Bird and Chicken Little discovered the flower garden and the falling leaves. Yesterday was very relaxing with the chickens out in the yard.

However now I have a cold- again. Nice to go back to work with a stuffed head-----NOT.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!
The pleasure was all mine Kim. You guys are some good people and good people are hard to find. I laugh so hard at Dink. He sure is funny. Did Kayla get over not being able to have a peachick in the city ? LOL We are going to do that again. The quail you brought me are doing real good. But I do agree on you with the fact that I would rather have my Cots as opposed to Bob Whites. I can hold my Cots and the Bob's are just spastic.
Remeber that crazy "Rock Star cicken" ( that's what my neightbor boy calls him) that was in the cage in my laying pen? I turned him loose yesterday to free range and let me tell you, he REALLY is crazy. If you even think in your head about going toward him he spasses out and runs like you have an ax with you hahaha

I was outide most of yesterday morning and midday cleaning and repairing coops for the winter. Cleaned out the garden and pulled up my tomato plants, threw the cherry one into the chicken run - today it is just a tangle of stems left. So much closer to being ready for the winter now!

As I worked, I saw over 100 Sandhill cranes and many, many different hawks passing over in their fall migration. I have a feeling the weather is going to change soon.

John, the salmon stopped biting up here about a week ago, the only ones anyone is catching is Pinks on the Carp River and they mostly look to be in bad shape - spawning came a few weeks early here and the salmon fishing is pretty much over.

Herducks - Here's a link for an ebay listing. Probably the one gladahmae saw. I've never bought eggs from eBay but the seller has 100% feedback score. Don't know if he/she is a member...?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-BANTAM-MI...ACK-BARRED-COCHIN-HATCHING-EGGS-/221130810072

Just FYI I tried to message them with some questions about their mottled bantam cochins on ebay and never received a response. I'm not planning on purchasing from them if they don't respond to my messages...

My DH has the same problem though he didn't seem to notice in a cake. Still we decided only chicken eggs for him now. Which was the reason I got chickens in the first place since I originally said I would NEVER have chickens!

Guess DH is allergic to duck eggs... last weekend he was sick after the scrambled eggs. Today I made pancakes and used a duck egg and he was sick again... He doesn't want to see another duck egg... EVER! Also, he's not in any hurry for me to cook him breakfast anytime soon

On a good note, yesterday I got 7 chicken eggs! First time all laying hens laid one on the same day! Good sized ones, too.

From you to us. Over this past two days we have seen almost 300 of them in huge groups so far up they are just dots and noise. Also the Chick-a-dee's are back this weekend.
