Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

My job has kept me really busy! The company is expanding and there are only a few of us that do my job. :) very demanding compared to the other positions but a little job security never hurt? Right?

Anyone here ever tried the "no crow" collars? My birds still reside at my friend's house but this winter makes me nervous. I got down to a pair of banties and a trio of my ee, i think a well thought out hutch coop in my spare room, with an air purifyer.....gaa! Next year hopefully my credit will allow me to buy a place. Problem is i don't want to be so far from towns, but these new restrictions make property hunting a real challange. I have been scoping the situation, don't look good. I wish having them inside would be enough to tell nosy neighbors and officials to bugger off but we all know *that* isn't enough. Grr. 5 years putting together the breeding trio of my dreams and stumbling at the finish...

Trying out my pretend fire as well, supplements the furnace so the limit switch? On the gas heater don't get overworked. Passed out on the couch as soon as i got it together so yep it is as soothing as the real deal!

I did not hunt this year. The past few years my son has used my gun. This year my son was given pumpkins to sell and made enough to go by his first rifle (left handed.) So I could have hunted but I had already volunteered to be in charge of our church's chili cook-off. My sister in law got an 8-pt and my brother hit/ran over a nubbin buck. No damage to his vehicle because it went under his truck. It is pretty funny seeing the two hanging next to each other. His little guy is half the size of hers.

Yesterday there was no hunting as my DH was called in for a 12 hour day of work. We only had 10 inches of accumulation here but my sister 10 miles south had more than 2 foot. I haven't seen anything from the u.p. folks. I wonder if they have dug out from their mess yet. I haven't been out to shovel yet this morning.

The chickens are fine but not really showing their faces. The ducks seem to love the snow and have displayed that they are content to swim in the small water dish.

Well we all filled one tag each at my dads over the weekend. My sister and Dad took a small buck each on Saturday. My sister only had a couple days to hunt this year so she shot what she saw to get meat for the freezer. Dad's getting old, so he can shoot what ever size buck he wants.

He's caught up in "last opportunities"... he said that may be the last buck I get. Sharing these times with my dad and sister keeps us close and have made some of the best memories.

I'm happy that they filled their tags and enjoyed their hunt. I'll worry about QDM later..

Saturday I didn't see any deer, Sunday, same thing.. nothing...the evening hunt was beautiful, I sat and watched everything turn white... As it got closer to dusk, I was intently watching the wood line and next thing you know, I see a fawn come charging out into the field and I raised my gun to check her in the scope to verify she was too small.. and noticed movement off to the right. the first thought in my head was "oh, bigger" LOL! I completely missed seeing her come running out of the woods in front of the fawn. She was intent on cutting through the field... but stopped just long enough to sniff the ground. She is now hanging in my shed! Man she was a nice heavy one!

So, I would say we had a very successful opening weekend.

Picking up a slightly used ... lol... ok, an old sewing machine. $50... looks a little rough, but it works, has a bunch of parts and user manual. If the cabinet is salvageable, I'll strip and restain, otherwise, I may antique paint it.

I have a similar treadle machine in good working order. The cabinet has 6 drawers. The wood filagrees on the ends fell off but I didn't lose them. I'm not sure that I want to restore anything at this time. I also have 2 portable antique Singers that are really nice. I sure would like to find a Juki LU big bobbin machine.

I never much cared for opening day, too many crazies on public land. I didn't even get a license this year.

There is a dusting of snow on the ground but nothing to speak of down here.

Another court appearance tomorrow afternoon. It is fishy that it is scheduled so late in the afternoon. The judge usually isn't there after lunch so I suspect that the probation officer is still messing with me. She can't get it through her head that I am not on probation.
