Thanksgiving truly was a day to be thankful. It was Granny's 88th birthday, and two of my brothers were here to celebrate the occasion. My dinner table was surrounded by 1 son, 1 stepson, 2 daughter in laws, 2 brothers, 2 sisters in law, 1 nephew, 3 granddaughters, and my old farmer. So with Hope, Granny and I we had quite a house full. I fried a turkey and Hope made all the traditional Thanksgiving fare with the addition of a ham, so no one went away from the table hungry.
Yesterday morning David and I again shared a deer blind and he took a nice doe while I culled an inferior buck that we both felt would never add to the quality of the deer herd. Today was a bust hunting but still a pleasurable day in the woods. However, getting from the woods was quite a problem. The farmer who leases the property had plowed the field and planted winter wheat. Unfortunately he plowed over our access road so with today's warmer temperatures the ground had become a soupy mess. With tonight's climbing temperatures and threat of rain we decided that driving in and out tomorrow may be nearly impossible. So rather than hunt the final day I will stay home and process the two we have.
