Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

H5N8 was found in oregon. No commercial flocks yet, only one backyard. I am on a waterfowl migration path. Starting to quietly panic; i have no doubt i could get a bird through it or myself if need be but the implications in lieu of our recent battles to keep poultry make me pale. This is exactly what our opponents had feared, though as of yet the wild birds are far more dangerous. I guess there were two reported owl deaths in the area. So getting special shoes and no one in, no one out but me. A vet if need be! Not trying to start a panic- if there is reason to worry we should all know so we can get our biosecurity measures in place.

huh....that's not cool door to door....and the warrant thing...that don't matter if you don't let them in they can get a hear say warrant and its signed within an hour...especially in smaller towns...just keep that in mind people in Michigan there is like 31 or 32 pages of different warrants they can get to invade your home....and if you don't let them in they will make it worse in the long run...cause if they have to take time out of there day....boy oh boy....

well on a different note the inside walls are wired in and working on the doors...should have that done and the small incubator done...so well see what happens

I will still allow them to test if they need to, but not willy nilly without me there to see proper protocal is followed. I just changed cars or i'd go to the vets and have them independantly certified. Mine will have to be in lockdown for now. I had been wanting bands and papers (clean test results) for my birds anyway, but it has to wait i just do not have any money right now.

They are Ameraucanas if you got them from Wynette. I got a black (Kali) and a blue (grey) from her at CS2014. The blue, Rana got killed by a hawk about 10 days after she started laying:(
They are VERY pretty birds...I just wish Kali would start laying..she's only 4 weeks younger than what Rana was..but, so far, she 12 weeks behind schedule in comparison!!!

Looks like molt it close to done..lots of combs reddening back up. Sure am ready. Besides not getting many eggs...I miss my green & dark brown Marans eggs!!

I had a lovely black Maran too, but she died unexpectedly a couple months ago, she was a lovely bird, very sweet and laid the most beautiful dark copper eggs...I still miss her. Can't wait for the Ameraucanas to start laying now, that would make my egg basket a very nice combination of colours

Hi there friends, I've had to change my phone number. Some of you have the old one and it will be functional for about week. You can call me on the old one or PM me here for the new one.

I've been getting tired of my girls kicking their straw up into their waterer. its one of those 3 gallon heated waterers from Farm and Fleet with the plastic handle. I figure between the handle and the cord, it would never stay balanced enough to really hang, so I have had it sitting up on a couple of cinderblocks on top of the straw. That helped some, but they were still getting it in there. So I cut down an old pallet here and nailed some 2x4's to it for legs. that would put it at about 3 and a half feet off of the ground now. I haven't moved the waterer yet, as it had about a day's worth of water left in it. Going to set it up on the table and fill it tomorrow.

They are beautiful and make me excited for my EEs to lay next year. Thankful for this group and the opportunities it's opened up!

Have a great weekend, everyone!
