Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

You might want to look into pre-fabricated houses as an alternative if you find land to build on. I had a pretty nice ranch that was a pre-fab.

One egg yesterday and one today from a different girl. I hope the dry spell is over. They are doing the squat and I'm getting some groping in.
We finally got enough snow to justify starting the snow thrower. The spark plug is fouled so I hope I can get it running. I would rather not shovel just yet as the stitches are still in. They come out tomorrow morning and I'll have a clean bill of health. Still get a craving for a smoke now and again.

Hold out against that craving, Raz!! You won't be sorry. The stink and the cost.....

On the guilts of money guilty on all charges :p
Never had those luxuries... this time last year even i was temp service barely making my 40 hours... i am proud but i am firm on my goals. I paid off my old credit card so it wouldn't garnish me; had to buy another beater; a few vet bills, chicken house, have the $$ to pay of my last judgement; credit in the ok range :) lifeis looking on the up. :)

As to the sterile roo wouldn't that be my kind of dumb luck?! Egads i hope not!

love the tiny house movement... I've been wanting to put one up at my dads if we can get his property. I would use it as a hunting cabin type thing. or for a weekend get away.

If you can wait until about july/august check out this site. https://www.tax-sale.info/ You may be able to get a home or property at a really cheap amount. We are watching the land next to us that was reported to be in tax foreclosure, it should be up for auction this year. Just a thought, could really extend your funds. No back taxes owed except for that year. Something to keep in mind.. (just don't out bid me on the piece I want) lol!

Well, never mind on that. I made a few phone calls and the land we wanted had it's taxes paid. #$%!

Hi all! New to BYC and well, chickens. Hoping my fellow Michiganders can help a girl out!! Any and all advice will be much appreciated. Looking to start my coop out with some egg layers as we eat ALOT of eggs. Wanted to order me some chicks to be delivered by the end of Feb. but not sure if the ground will be thawed enough for the husband to build my coop and run. I'd like them to free range. Again, any and all advice welcome!! Thanks!!

Good job with the quit, just remind your self how much $$ you are saving

We took some shower doors down last week and decided not to put back up, would make a great light source for a coop if any one is interested

Welcome to BYC

lots of good ideas in the coop section. build bigger then you need, (chicken math gets all of us) even if you free range you will want a good sized covered run for vacation time, hawk migration time. , most important remember chicks cant go outside till they are fully feathered, they need to be kept very warm and they can be dirty in the house.

Welcome Barrettsmimi. You have definitely come to the right place. I've had chickens for many years and I still learn something new here every time visit this sight. Some times it's as simple as how to do something better, some times it's an evaluation of a product. But always informative. Real nice folks too!
