Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I think you should bring mead to ChickenStock for us all to sample a few types...

Can you imagine the possibilities? LOL!

It's been done before...a few years ago there was a member (who has left) that had a husband who made wine. He brought a variety that we "sampled". That's when I got into wine making, lol! They were supposed to open a winery in Vermontville, MI but I guess that did not pan out.

Maple mead is definitely very delicious! And a maple cyser, whoa that would probably be amazingI I might actually buy some sap from a neighbor (whose sugar shack is in full swing right now) and try a small batch of either strait up maple mead, or an acerglyn, a mix of honey and maple syrup.

I hope your mead turned out great! Isn't the wait for things to age a bit agonizing? Once everything is bottled up, I'm going to be chomping at the bit to try it. But mead needs patience. That is so cool your trees gave you all you need to produce some lovely brews! My apple and cherry trees are still a bit too little. Though I do have a neighbor whose Wolf River apple tree explodes every year with apples, he always calls us to come fetch apples since there are far too many for him to use. Maybe 'tis time to plan an Apfelwein or something.
I did not like the name Acerglyn so I named mine "Bees and Trees".

I did make Apfelwein which being a Germanic name I kept. What I did not keep was 6 gallons that I poured on my compost pile - YEP. The secret (which I did not use) was to use only fresh 100% juice from apples. I'll be making another 12 gallons this fall when the apples are at their best - and only juice. It was the only wine that has failed me yet.

Alright Michiganders, yoopers, troles, and flat Landers all alike.

I'm hitting the panic button on the search for a couple of white leg horn roosters..

Does anyone have any leads they wood like to share??

My not so fun project. It took me more than a few eggs to get the technique to blow out eggs with an air compressor and not have them blow up in my hand. Having more than 20 dozen eggs in the fridge made the exploding eggs a little less troubling and now I know how.
DH also cooked 4 dozen bantam/Serema eggs to pickle. He likes them with lots of jalapeño and garlic.
And in the irony of a fridge full of eggs, we aren't cooking any to color. My son is doing ceramic ones with his 4-h group.
very cool, I hadn't thought of using an air compressor, touchy I would think. end product is very pretty

FIRST EVER CHICK I HAVE EVER HATCHED :D I'm fairly new to chicken keeping, but decided to let a silkie named Henny sit on some eggs; turned out only two were fertile and one has hatched so far :) I am SO excited! This little one is a silkie named Cluck Norris. Loves hiding in mama's fluff.

Congrats! :weee My first chicken hatched ever survived a incubator fall. She is beautiful and I even have her real mother. She is super evil, like to attack sometimes, and her eggs aren't super big either. But, she sometimes has a funny personality. I know some of you wouldn't tolerate this but oh well lol. The favorite/'special' chickens seem to be the least practical to keep around
I'm from NY but what ever... right???
Welcome!
