Here are some photos of him. His tail has gotten longer since the last pictures was taken.

While not chicken related this might save you you some money. My glasses had accumulated so many fine scratches that they were unwearable. Since they were basically trash I decided that I would try polishing them with the plastic lens cleaner used for headlights. I was amazed at how clear they now are.
good tip , thank you, DH is going to try it

Non chicken related question for those of you in the UP......we are planning a trip to pictured rock and Tahquamenon falls, .....need to know when is the best time to come, June,July or Aug., thinking second week of Aug. or third week of July, but don't want to feed the black flies or natts if we can help it.

I do not live in the UP but we have & plan on doing week long trips at least every 2 years. We usually end up going the week before Labor Day weekend. Sort of a last last hurrah to summer. We have rented small cabins on both South & Manistique for pretty inexpensive, mostly because we dont have a camper. There is so very much to do in the UP.

You might want to confine your birds completely for a few weeks, closing the top half of a door will not keep a hawk out, and it will be back looking for another meal until it realizes the free chicken dinners are no longer being offered. Raz had a hawk one time that entered his garage through the pop door and helped himself.
Yeah, I'm keeping them locked up for now, only allowing them to be out with somebody there to watch them. really wish Mom would have let me keep the Iowa Blue Cockerel that I had got from Candy. Figure he would have done something about that hawk. Thing is that she was worried that he could become aggressive with Miss Belle, who's all of nine pounds. Now she's worried about the hawk coming by sometime and snatching her up if we're not right there watching her.

If you're going to do some hiking, it would be a good idea to start walking daily to get in shape for it. At Tahquamenon Falls, there's a trail between the Lower falls and the Upper falls. Its only 4 miles, but its a pretty rough 4 miles with a lot of hills to go up and down and tree roots to scramble over. And you'll want on a good pair of hiking boots.

When I did lots of trips 'up north' ....both below and above the bridge......
....our favorites were the off seasons, when there wasn't so many other 'tourists' around.
Campgrounds were much quieter, trails weren't so crowded.

Yesterday I rearranged the flock into sections; the bantams in the annex, and the standards in the main coop. Nobody was happy! Today I let the big birds out and kept the bantams in, and those birds are very annoyed with me. It's been a week since the hawk took out the second bantam, so here's hoping it's moved on. We'll see. I now have two people interested in some birds, and have to decide who's leaving for other homes. Still too many bantams, though. Mary
someone on FB is looking for Mille Fleur girl. Do you have one in case she doesn't get one? Has one girl who lost her buddy to a hawk. Lady lives in Eaton Rapids

thank you and the others for the tips, maybe the week before school starts would be a good choice. and for sure will have some good shoes cause we want to do the hike between falls,

do you
need to reserve cabins? and is there a listing some were? we plan on tenting but if that doesn't work its good to have a back up plan

a tip for those with the pesky fruit flies, we have had trouble with them for several yrs now and I finally found something that works fairly well. clear all food and dishes from counter, wash well including back splash. then pour some ammonia down the drain at night before you go to bed, it seems they breed in the drain. don't use vinegar as an alternative, they like vinegar

I suggest checking out the chamber of commerce websites and they will have a listing of cabin rentals. We usually stay in Curtis. Or check out www.vrbo.com (vacation rental by owner). Our favorite part of Tahquamon is the lower falls. Take a row boat to the island and you can walk & swim in the rivers & falls. I think its about $10-20 for the boat rental.

Those flies in the drain are very similar but not the same as fruit flies.
