Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

We got 8" total even after settling...took pic this morning:

It'll all be gone in a couple days.
Quite a bit of it melted today. We didn't even bother plowing out our driveway, just ran the truck up and down it a few times and a few times around the roundabout around the round pen, knocked it all down pretty well and opened it up to where the sun could hit the driveway surface and warm things up even more.

Also had a minor problem tonight when I got home and did a quick check. Their water was icing up and I then realized that I hadn't plugged the darn cord into the wall yet that the heater is plugged into. Thankfully, it wasn't frozen solid yet, so it should be fine now once it gets a chance to heat up a little. With the temps here dipping down to 16 degrees, it might be a while until it heats it all up.

Quote: That melted about halfway down, it's south but bench back shades it some...and it stayed pretty cold yesterday despite the sun.
I didn't bother clearing driveway either, on gravel portion snow was pretty thin and some barley got covered because the ground's still pretty warm....
...and the thrower is not installed yet<rolleyes>tractor still in mowing mode...I did plug in the water heater tho.

So surprisingly there was a buck on our land the other day.

Except we knew this because we heard shots very close to the house all of the sudden. A truck on the road with a man taking shots over his hood at it. Right into our hay field where the buck was, with a horse behind his field of fire. Needless to say, I was livid, but when my father and I confronted him (boxed in his truck with our vehicles before he could leave) my father opted not to call the police. It was an older gentleman and while retaliation isn't a fear, my father felt it wasn't necessary. I dunno, I'd have nailed his rear end to the wall, since he was poaching from the road onto our land.

His excuse was "I thought it was so and so's land still, and he always let me hunt on it". Nope, it hasn't been "so and so's" land for five years, and even then, one does not hunt from the road.

He missed, there was no blood trail that I could find.

Still incredibly mad about it. I have a picture of him and his vehicle in case it ever happens again. Breaking the law like that really steams me.

Hunting from the road is one thing, not cool at all, but an unsafe shot with horses behind target is what really scares me.
Yikes!

Glad you stopped him... he was lying and hoping to get away with what he knew was wrong. He was being greedy and stupid. Call the MDNR next time 800-292-7800 Rap line. By not reporting him, he'll just keep doing it. I would have nailed his hide to the wall too!

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

Hey, everyone! I just wanted to pop in and say hello. Sorry I haven't been around much. I'm almost done with my last masters degree. It's been a busy time doing school and working full-time plus managing the animals. I hope you're all well!

Hope everyone as a great Thanksgiving! All four of my kids will be home!

This year Thanksgiving is going to be much quieter than in past years. Two of my sons live out of state, and David is spending the day with his wife's parents. My brothers are with their families so only Hope, Granny, and my old farmer friend will be enjoying dinner together.

Thanksgiving is traditionally the day when we should give thanks for all that we have, and this year for me I have much to be thankful for. The recent stroke I suffered has only reinforced my belief that I am a very rich and fortunate man. Family and friends all rallied to my side and their outpouring of love and support was amazing.

While the right side of my body remains numb, I have no loss of function so once again I am a very fortunate person with much to be thankful for.

I hope each and everyone of you has a safe and enjoyable day and take a few moments to give thanks for the blessing of life in our great country.
