Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It is not a money making event to sell started pullets unless you are growing your own feed. My girls pay their own way with eggs for 3 maybe 4 months then it's free loading time. I guess I'm not in it to make money. They are my hobby. They make me get out of bed when it 9 degrees outside.

well I'm going to complain about mice now too, lol.

I was doing some work in teh garage the other day and noticed something odd below my motorcycle. I looked closer and it was black flecks of what looked like plastic. It turns out a mouse (or mice) got into my motorcycle air box and chewed a hole through it. **** mice.

Thoughts.
Munsell's will do one processing job. It just has to be on a day that they are doing many others. Just call them and ask them when they are processing.
Having said that, I'm taking 3 roos and 2 ducks next week (Feb 17).

I have some mixed thoughts here. One of my roos, an Iowa Blue mix, is a gentle fella with nice manners and a good disposition. He crows very rarely and only a few times a day. This is a bird that maybe could last in the suburbs. But should I dare that risk given what I've gone though in the past?

Mice? Yeah I've had a few in the wood pile. But the dogs and the chickens have taken care of them. The dogs spooked them out and the chickens took over from there. It was a feeding frenzy worthy of Nat Geo. They ate everything including the squeak.

Credit cards and skimmers?????? Oh my. The last ag meeting I was at, they said that MDARD was looking in to it.

Hello fellow Michiganders!

I read a lot, but am for the most part silent on this forum, but I need to reach out for some information from some of you.

I'm a year new to the Three Rivers area and am in need of two things: someone I can hire on an on/off basis to cull and prepare birds for me (I had a butcher in Indiana, but now it's just too far), and I would love some fertilized Black Copper Maran or Light Brahma eggs to buy!

If any of you can help out with info in any way, I would appreciate it.

Thank you. :)
Three Rivers down south of Schoolcraft in St Joseph county??
Try calling Pease Processing in Scotts, they don't show poultry on their website but I hear they do them.

Nods......they ate all the foam out of the airbox on my snowmobile....put socks filled with mothballs in there the next year. Not sure which is worse, the odor of mothballs or mouse pee when riding.

What a surprise to find at work this morning, to find a cow #6 had given birth to TRIPLETS! All are heifers! Very rare for that to happen, and my boss never had triplets born on his farm before in all of his 67 years of his life! Glad to be part of that. :D A normal holstein single birth calf, average weighs about 80 to 100 lbs, these triplets were about 40 lbs each! They are so tiny!
