Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Thanks Folly's Place and I am five wire. Chicken math has already set in, and I don't even have the chick's yet! Originally I was only getting six, then decided I needed some blue and green eggs, and the barred rock!

Welcome!

Agrees, go bigger.....and you don't need to bury your apron a foot deep, just a few inches should do the trick, go out farther instead.

Got some progress done on my hoop coop as well. Got the panels in place, just need to finish wiring them together.
I still haven't decided quite what my design will be......trolling for good construction techniques now.

Thanks aart! I really wasn't looking forward to burying all that wire a foot deep lol. And I bought 10 chicks, when I originally only wanted 6,because I wasn't sure what the check mortality rate would be. Now that I have too many, they'll probably all live! Murphy's Law. Or is that also considered to be one of the laws of chicken math? Lol

I'm not finding the info on the event?

It's on the bottom of my post in the signature area. Here is the link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1092505/cs16-the-official-michigan-chicken-stock-information-thread-for-june-11-2016

We also have a members updated thread to show a list of who is bringing what. There is a covered pavilion our group rents and bring things to show and sell! :)

Hi Zn, welcome to the Michigan thread.

Generally you will want to provide around 4 square feet of floor space in the coop per bird. Remember that in bad weather the birds will often be confined inside for long periods of time. Crowding increases the incidence of bad behaviour such as picking, and increases the risk of health issues.

Rough evening for me. I had to send my drake to freezer camp today. He's been ripping feathers our of one of my chickens. He also has started attacking and trying to drown my young ducks. It's a sad day for me because he's one that I rescued after my coyote attack. The actual.....process didn't go so smooth either :(

Also, lots of little pin feathers, I still have plucking to do it seems. Every time I think I'm done, I find more.

Cleaned up, he weighed in at 3lb, 2 oz. I thought he'd be heavier, but I'm bad when it comes to guessing weight.

It's a bit sad to me as well, because I still have one of my original flock left, and I'm worried she'll miss the old boy. Maybe that's silly, but I don't know.

This is definitely the part I hate most of having ducks and chickens.
