Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Going to have about 10 birds so ended up with to many boxes and it's not going to be mobile once we get it to its final destination. Some buddies and I have the pleasure of moving it this weekend. It turned out alot heavier then anticipated.

I bet it weight a ton

It would be easy to close a few of those off on the inside and use them for storage. You did a great job.

......or to kind of extend floor space, coop is pretty small (4x4-6?) for 10 birds in our climate.

Very nice. Plenty big for 10 birds. You'll probably get more, everyone does, lol.

Need advice now...

Brett discovered over the winter, we developed a rat population around our polebarn. Getting in to get the chicken feed that dropped from the feeders onto the floor.

We set traps, cleaned out the pole barn of all pens and now have the coops outside each with their own run (using resin sheds on cement tile).

Yesterday, he said he saw a long tail weasel running by the pole barn with a rat in its mouth. I read that weasels will prefer to kill rodents over chickens -- love that idea!! and so far no problem with the chickens...yet! I am sure it's a matter of time

I like that the weasel is getting the rats/mice, but also read they like to kill for the fun of it.
Will electric netting around the perimeter of my coop runs keep the weasels from getting any ideas for chickens?
The birds are let out in dog kennels during the day and different groups get to free range.

suggestions?

That will be tight for ten birds; consider a roof on your run so the whole thing works as an all-weather coop. which is what I did here, and it's great! Also, if birds will be locked in that coop, it needs more ventilation. Mary
