Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I've been very impressed with the big yellow plastic feeder from Premier1supplies.com;  no waste at all, and I feed crumbles!  Plan to get another one next spring.  Mary
Is it this one?

When my chickens bill out too much of their food, I just remove the feeder for a bit until they clean it up.

Good Morning! Be safe out there with the fireworks!!

Wasted food has always been a problem.  However, you can reduce the loss by feeding pellets rather than mash.  With pellets the birds will pick up each individual piece one at a time.  With mash many birds will use a technique called billing.  It is a side sweeping motion that is the bird's attempt to get  as much mash as possible.  This side sweeping motion tends to push feed out of the feeder.

I ferment the feed. No waste and they eat less

Glad to hear you're doing well Raz.

Yesterday about 2pm the Guineas started screaming. I went out to find a chupacabra running in my chicken yard. Ok it was really an animal with such bad mange I wasn't sure what it was. He was shot at but it was as he was running off so I'm sure he'll be back. He killed 4 birds including my sons rooster he was going to use for showmanship and my favorite hen.

It never fails that they take the nicest ones. After talking to the neighbor we believe it's a fox. It took two of his birds as well. So my free range birds are going to be locked up today. I don't think they are going to like it and the flyers will be on their own.

So we will be looking for bantam calico Cochin eggs to hatch late August into September.[/quote

I know right! I always say "take the old ones!" I don't mind so much if they do. Saves me from having to deal with them.

I'm walking a lot as part of my recovery process. Since I'm not sleeping well yet, some of these walks are early in the morning. Like today.

At 4:30 am I am returning home and spot a critter in the light of the street lamp. It's a fox with a dead rat in his mouth. We looked at each other briefly and he went on his way. This was about a block north of me.
