Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Thanks!

I don't have any livetraps right now, but this seems like an excellent excuse to pick one up. I just want to make sure The Man(R) won't be on me over harming an innocent little chicken murderer if I walk out and find it being an active threat.
What The Man don't know won't hurt him none, and there are ways of dispatching them really quiet like.

Looks like a RIR roo to me!

That was my thought as well. But until I hear her crow, I choose to deny it. lol I really didn't want a rooster. Didn't want to deal with the attitude, nor do I want to hatch out chicks. My coop is already at capacity. If it turns out to be a he, I suppose he can stay as long as he remains a gentleman. Any agression, and he'll be gone,

I bought 2 production RIR "pullets" from TSC this spring. They're about 10 weeks and I've recently realized "Rosey" is a he. :th I promised the husband no roos, but I can't be blamed for what I didn't know, right?;)

First day of my first lockdown! Send some good vibes for pips and hopefully future fuzzy butts!

I keep trying to get a photo of the new fuzzbutt but I'm having no luck. I don't want to disturb mother hen too much as she still has 4 eggs under her.
Maybe later. Maybe tomorrow.

Maybe now?

Finally! The front of the coop. It faces south, the back is two large doors that open completely for cleaning. I'll try to get a pic of that.

nice coop, hope you don't out grow it to soon, chicken math can be a real problrm

That is so cool, how did you get him to do that? he must be very tame to pick him up,
I had a rooster do something similar once I grabbed him by the feet and hung him upside down for a min. and when I put him down on the floor, he just laid there I thought I had killed him
lol

That is so cool Raz, love to see wildlife.

I had some nuthatches use their special ESP power on me yesterday. I was out watering, and a group of them kept flying down by where I was watering, flying up onto a low branch in a cedar just above, and staring hard at me. So I moved a little farther away, and they came down and had a bath in the water that was beaded up on my giant-leafed hostas. Interesting how they obviously knew what they wanted me to do, and got me to do it. And people call animals dumb.

glad the fox gave you warning, now you know he is in the neighborhood, you can be on guard, great that he is taking out the rat population
Wasted food has always been a problem. However, you can reduce the loss by feeding pellets rather than mash. With pellets the birds will pick up each individual piece one at a time. With mash many birds will use a technique called billing. It is a side sweeping motion that is the bird's attempt to get as much mash as possible. This side sweeping motion tends to push feed out of the feeder.
I love the pellets for that very reason, I hate when I have chicks in the run and have to switch to flock raiser,

tap, sorry about your lost birds, was that a different fox then the one you shot a short time ago?
