Just a quick FYI for anyone living in Northern Lower I found a vet that takes care of winged patients. Lindsy Lorencz at the Maple River Animal Clinic in Alanson (on US 31) treats our winged friends. Our drake Frankie managed to sprain his leg getting a little amorous with his ladies and needed treatment, I called all over and she is the only one in this area that will even look at ducks, chickens etc.

Hope this is allowed. Frankie is doing much better with his warm epsom salt baths and massage as prescribed.

Never had anything but an occasional mouse and made repairs to the floor where it got in but Today..... I went out to gather any late day eggs (yes I have one to three that lay late) and give them a treat of sunflowers at roost time. Before I got out there the ones ON the roost were really complaining and the others were piling OUT of the coops!! I had left the human door open as well as their pop/door. Ok now I'm concerned and approached carefully (we do have bears around).... seeing nothing I stepped in but backed out quickly, against the far wall scouting was the skunk that has been nosing around the yard about midnight or two in morning!

Best thought was go around to the side and back of the coop AND scare the rest of the crap out of the chickens by banging on the walls and back end.... waited after checking in window and saw it was out...BUT NOT LONG enough.... it HAD indeed come out but hadn't gotten too far away and ducked UNDER the coop...I shut things up and proceeded to round up the rest of the flock to their respective coops. Then had the bright idea to bang on the flooring and gathered the last three eggs... as I stepped out it was between the back of coop and the door. I quickly backed away letting the cockerel grow out coop shield by presence and went toward house and watched from inside until I saw it move on toward the road.

Nobody or any poultry got sprayed!!!! So I put some ammonia drops around coop hoping it won't go back around it. ;) It can visit the yard and go on through but not take up residence IN or UNDER the coop or have any eggs! After all I do live out in Rural Woodland America near to State land and wetlands.

*Rooster free to a good home*

He was our bonus bird from McMurray hatchery and we think he is a Dominic, Needless to say he turned to be a 'he' which leaves me with one rooster too many so I'm looking for a new home for him.

Will try and get a photo of him tomorrow, he really is quite a handsome bird.

Here is a Cubalaya bantam project pullet. It is a color variety that used to be common in the chicken shows, but was neclected and fell by the wayside. I along with a few others are trying to ressurect the color variety once again. A very good pullet for not being purebred Cubalaya. The body type is good and the eye color is almost perfect. Eye color needs to be just a bit deeper red and the beak should be just a tad shorter.
