Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

We added two more Anconas, but will be rehoming six Ancona drakes. I may just decide to put them in the freezer. If anyone is looking for nice drakes (Ancona black and white breed) for their girls, let me know. But if only for dinner? We can do that ourselves

Our new additions (Ancona-drake lavender and duck is chocolate):

And our black/whites we hatched-some of these are up for grabs:

Really love this breed, can't wait for our first eggs! they are 14 weeks so hope we see some before winter!

Is it getting too late to start fall meat birds? I still need to build a tractor and all that for them, but really wanted to get a batch of meat birds in this year. I figured I would do the cornish x for my first run into meat bird land.

Only takes 8-9 weeks to grow Cornish x. Plenty of time if you feed the high protein feed they need for solid growth.

This week is our county fair. it started badly when my sons market pigs refused to load. Huge ordeal! Today was poultry day, a much easier day. My son got reserve for his market turkey and showmanship. He then went on to use his third choice bird (thanks to fox and hawk) for animal husbandry. He got grand for showmanship.

Beyond a stash of ribbons, Jack (on the left) who got a reserve originally came from Nova. She gave a pair to my son three chicken stocks ago. And George (on the right) came to us as an egg from 1mutt. The pen you can't see on the far left is a pair mom2em gave him for his birthday one year. All BYC member birds! Thank you ladies, it made the boy's day.

This year our fair had open class showmanship which I decided to do. Unfortunately I did too good and have now acquired a job of giving a showmanship clinic for the 4-h kids.

And my duck hatched out all 9 eggs, they have also gone to the fair. I decided it was a good way to keep them safe from the hawk an extra week.

Congratulations! I went to the fair this year and thought to myself "there are NOT enough turkeys here!" I have plenty...about 50 right now...and have been working hard at producing great birds. So maybe I will enter open class next year!
