Are the current 'rules' no chickens at all?
sounds like you could be getting into the same thing you left in GC??
nice place RaZ, found the pics, very nice. ......hope all goes well, sounds like you have been super busy with 2 houses to sell and clean out. that looks like a rather small place so not to much room for a lot of stuff......less is best;)

Current rule is no poultry in "residential" areas. And yes I am currently zoned as residential. I'm not waiting until spring for the change. I'm going to apply for a rezone hearing. Seven acres and surrounded by state land qualifies for a change. Don't you think?

It's not the same as GC, for one the only immediate neighbor is a 2-3 times a year visitor. Two, the year-round people seem to love me for buying this property. The old owners were a huge problem. Three, they want me to plow snow for them this winter. Will plow for cash...or beer. :drool
I've met about a dozen people so far and they are all really nice. Just the way a neighborhood should be. Offers of help, sharing food, beer and sharing stories.

The house is very small and I have way too much stuff to deal with. Mom's house, my GC house and the garage stuff. That's why I need this garage built ASAP. The materials arrive on Tuesday. My dream place...a garage that is bigger than the house! :D I hope to have the permit this week. The building guy seems to be cooperative for what I want to do. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Just a thought but we could hold Chicken Stock here next year. How about a 2-day CS18 with lots of room and beach access on Saginaw Bay?

PS, Still need help with moving, cleaning and organizing the new home. ;)

sounds really nice, wish we were closer, would stop in and say Hi!!...7 acres should get you what you want and all the state land is a bonus, but you will have more predators then you were used to in the past. how close are you to the bay? there is a St. park up there is it close by? might be a good camping trip for next year!

I'm not too worried about the predators, yet. I know there is a local fox but I can work with that. I'd actually like to see it. Call me crazy.
Beach access is within walking distance as is Sleeper State Park, but I'm lazy and will drive the side-by-side there.
I have a 30-amp RV outlet hook-up so you could park here for free. Although I'm thinking about changing that fixture to something that I'll use more. Current ordinance says that people can camp for up to 30 days at a time. Not sure I could put up with you for a month but it's legal. ;) Think about Cheeseburger next August.

How cool is this?
I missed the building inspector's call on Thursday before I left for the city. Sent an e-mail reply on Friday when I got back to internet service.
Just got a reply from his personal e-mail that says I've been approved for the garage.

I am loving my new home!

As I said before, this year is crazy with predators. Build sturdy! This was a month back a raccoon tore a latch off and got in the pop door, my fault, should have been sturdier.

This morning I see something tried to get in the same coop last night but the man door.

I guess the traps have to go back out.
Also a hen who I buried two months ago was disinterred, this I know was a skunk. By the print size likely this year's baby.

Will do! :thumbsup They’re sweet, big birds. We’ve enjoyed having them thus far.

So cute when they first start to crow! Always puts a smile on my face listening to their crowing mishaps while they’re trying to get it figured out.
Pretty birds you have there too. :love
MissLady, where abouts are you? We visit the Lake every summer ( about an hour South of Luddington) but don't mind driving some to pick up a chicken. This past summer I got a lavender Americana and a Coro Sussex in Howell. I can't seem to find a lavender orp pullet on the east coast and would love one!
