Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I really wanted a SLW, but waited and I am so glad I did. A lot of hatchery ones don't grow up to look like their pictures, lol! I got my hen shipped from Foley's--she is very sweet and gentle and low on the pecking order even with the addition of my Michigan pullets. Little eggs, but then she was bred for beauty! I hear that Nittany's Poultry also has show quality Wyandottes.

MissLady, where abouts are you? We visit the Lake every summer ( about an hour South of Luddington) but don't mind driving some to pick up a chicken. This past summer I got a lavender Americana and a Coro Sussex in Howell. I can't seem to find a lavender orp pullet on the east coast and would love one!

I’m near the greater Holland area, from a little blip on the map that barely anyone has ever heard of. ;)
But if you’re about an hour south of Ludington I’m assuming that would be near Grand Haven? Not too far. Don’t have any pullets at the moment, just some young Roos. But I could always hatch some chicks out next summer if you’re out this way, just send me a message next time you plan a trip and I’ll try to work it out. :)

I'm not too worried about the predators, yet. I know there is a local fox but I can work with that. I'd actually like to see it. Call me crazy.
Beach access is within walking distance as is Sleeper State Park, but I'm lazy and will drive the side-by-side there.
I have a 30-amp RV outlet hook-up so you could park here for free. Although I'm thinking about changing that fixture to something that I'll use more. Current ordinance says that people can camp for up to 30 days at a time. Not sure I could put up with you for a month but it's legal. ;) Think about Cheeseburger next August.

This new forum is a little hard to get used to.......Tap you have some very determined critter up by you, I don't see that kind of damage around here, they go in for the easy stuff, food in the run, if they get past the hot wire, but don't bother with the coop.

Raz that sounds like an awesome find, I would love to be that close to the lake, even cold lake Huron. ..... So beautiful, I don't have an RV though, just tent. your RV plug could be for a generator, Which you might need up there, and you can buy an adapter for the outlet.....
Will have to check out the St. Park, we usually go to lake Mich. are there any public, inland lakes near buy?

I think you may have found paradise, cooperative city officials, wow, you have earned it:)

Beautifull Hen,!!!!!

I'm not sure if it's kosher here, but here's a bunch of pictures of my flock this fall as we downsize for the W-----. The husband set a goal to make a blog post of some sort. I didn't get to writing much, but pictures are easy so here they are. The rest of the blog isn't really worth reading at this point, but this "photo session" was fun.

Took the next step in intergrating the little BSL's into the main flock today. Made a baby gate for the old coop that has spaces big enough for them to go in and out of, but small enough that the big girls can't get through them. we had some bad fencing that we had to take down, and I cut some of that up. Had to go with 2 layers as the holes on just one layer of fence was big enough that the big girls could go right on in and help themselves to the banana that the little girls had in there. Zip tied them together and a bungie cord to hold the door and gate all into place.

And after a while, the little girls got brave.

Hopefully about a week or so of this and then I'm just going to move them into the big coop full time. Winter is coming kids and you're going to want to in the nicer place. Just know your place on the pecking order.
