Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It's usually labeled as 'Poultry Dust' and always available at TSC in this area anyway.
Yes, just check the ingredients.

You don't need to treat the coop for lice, they pretty much stay on the birds.
I doubt the lice alone killed the bantam, they don't feed on blood like mites-they feed mostly on skin and dander, could be a plethora of reasons a bird succumbs during a cold spell.

After tomorrow it's supposed to be into average temps for winter, and it will feel WARM!
The days are getting longer too. The chickens are a bit stir crazy, and will welcome melting snow and less cold.

Yes, the 'warmth' will feel nice.....
...but then going from feet of freezing snow to 40+F rain may cause flooding here.
NOT looking forward to that.

Lice do eat blood, out of the broken feather shafts, and will cause anemia. They are easier to eliminate than mites, but treating the coop is still a good idea. KILL the little xxxx's!!! Mary

Thank u Mary and Aart I really appeciate both of you helping me. I'm on my way to TSC in just a few and I hope like heck they have everything I need. Going to be fun cleaning the coops in negative temps and chasing chickens to dust them. It was neg 19 this morning. Good thing I have insulated bibs and heavy coat and long johns. Already have mask and safety glasses. Too cold to spray anything w liquid today but will probably get spray and use it this coming week when it warms up some.

Hey all, it's been a Long time since I've been on and hoping you all are having a good new year especially with the horrible cold weather we've been having. Had some health issues last year but I am back into egg art (Pysanky) and creating educational kits for the kiddies. Look really looking forward to this year's chickenstock and bringing some pysanky to share.
Need some help… I am LOOKING to buy white large sized chicken eggs for Easter pysanky.
I live near Selfridge Air Force Base in Southeast Michigan. If anyone has eggs for sale not too far from there, please message me.

COME ON WARMER WEATHER! I need to evict some 10 week old surprise broody hatch chicks!

Hi Glambka, sorry to hear you have had health issues. I hope to make it this year to CS as well. Since I have only colored egg layers, I have nothing to offer you, hope you can find someone closer by who has a few eggs for you. For those who have not seen them, they are absolutely lovely.
