Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hi Glambka, sorry to hear you have had health issues. I hope to make it this year to CS as well. Since I have only colored egg layers, I have nothing to offer you, hope you can find someone closer by who has a few eggs for you. For those who have not seen them, they are absolutely lovely.
Love to see you at CS! Even though I'm looking for white chicken eggs now, I will be in the market for colored eggs as well! I'll be in touch before CS and maybe I can order some from you; or a swap perhaps?

I snuck out and got a good at my chicken with the rough looking feathers. I didn’t see signs of lice around her vent or at the base of the feathers. I think my others have just been bored and picking at her.

I wonder.....can the stress from the cold trigger a molt?
Makes no logical sense, it's cold - keep your feathers, but still.
I have one blowing feathers now.
Am using lights tho, wonders too if that is complicating things?

Well I bet it's been since last CS since I've been on here. So busy last spring with all my goats and then summer, fall, and now it's a new year...whoa. Keeping up with some people on FB but most don't hit this site anymore. Hopefully I can talk them into attending our gathering in June. Looks like a major warm-up, up to 30 today? Doing chores for 4 hours a day gets old...stay warm.

Hi John, nice to see you :) I miss hearing from some of our "older" timers. I agree about chores, so have pared down to just the chickens (only 1 pen in the winter) and occasionally horses (when my friend is out of town).

Glambka, I will surely have eggs by then. Not so many right now though, no lights and so I only get 1-2 eggs a day right now, which is plenty for just me. Problem is it is so cold they freeze before I can collect them on most day. Hooray for a warmup.

Hello,

I am a newbie. Anyone here from Livonia? My husband and I want a few chickens. We live on 1.5 acres and have a three story barn. The only ordinance we could find was against selling chickens or chicks. Would selling eggs allow us to use the right to farm act to keep them?

Thanks for any info, Steph
