Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Love that colour pallet, Trail. I get a couple that I call pinkish.

Questions about turkeys...
Four eggs collected so far from at least 1 of the hens. The tom has mated with both in the past week or so. Should I leave the eggs in the nest for the hen to hatch? I'm not sure that the weather is warm enough for nesting yet. I'm concerned that they would freeze. If it gets warm enough I can give her the eggs back.

Or should I just cook 'em up?

Got a new job that will help me provide better for my family, but the catch is that I no longer able to keep any poultry. :hit Its a turkey farm, so it's for biosecurity reasons that I can't keep any birds at all. So, I got rid of all of my laying hens to a family that will supply us fresh eggs in return, we won't be without fresh eggs! :yaWill have to butcher the last 2 young turkey hens unless someone wants them? They are heritage mutts, but beautiful. No longer have goats, trying to sell all of my hogs. We need to take a break from the goats and the hogs. Will have hogs again when we get moved and settled to a new place closer to my new job. Still have my cows, and a pair of Icelandic sheep. Glad spring is finally just around the corner!!! Getting ready to do maple tapping!:yesss:

HolyCrap!!!
Have had 2 trigger fingers and 1 thumb(not the rebuilt thumb)...
...thumb was cut after it locked, others resolved over time before they got too bad.
Yeah, I've had a few clients who have had that. that can be a real pain to break up and get more mobility back into the joint.

Raz, whatever exercises and stretches your PT gives you to do at home, you'll want to at least double the amount that they tell you to do.

So glad to hear from you! What beautiful girls you have there :)! Sorry to hear you have to rehome the birds and other stock. How far do you have to move?
Will you be able to attend Chickenstock? Hope???:fl

Yeah, I've had a few clients who have had that. that can be a real pain to break up and get more mobility back into the joint.
It's vicious spiral of inflammation of both the tendon and the tendon sheath.
Anti-inflammatories and frequent isolation of the joint(splint) worked for me.
Takes time to fully resolve tho.

So glad to hear from you, Farmerboy. Your girls are beautiful! So sorry you have to give up your birds, but sounds like you are quite busy. Might be a welcomed break for you. Where are you planning to move? Congrats on the new job! Hope you can drop by Chickenstock. It would be great to meet your girls.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is underway, in case anyone is interested

this always confuses me, how do you know you aren't counting the same birds over and over?

good to hear from you, beautiful girls. they look like their mommy:). where is your new job? not to far from your family I hope, it will seem strange to not have chickens in the yard:(.
we have a neighbor that has had his trees tapped for a week or 2. the trees seem to be filling their buckets.
Congrats on your new job. I hope it works out well for you.

Well, you might be counting the same birds. I try to get some feel for how many are there at one time, including those in the trees around the house, kind of like little snapshots. It's easier with the woodpeckers, I get tons of those but only 2-3 at a time mostly. I think they have some way of taking that into account.
