Ah, life in the woods. A new visitor stopped by last night. At 2:00 AM!
A fox was in the yard eyeing a hen turkey who opted to stay out last night.
No harm was done and the chickens were all in the coop.
I need to step up that coop construction even if my hand isn't fully ready to use. Chickens first. Right?

Not in this case, aart.
They are sheltered in a 8 x 10 shed that was already on the property. I added the 10 x 17 portable garage in front. But I know that just isn't good enough.

Not in many cases, was just a funny that stuck in my mind....
....at least you have some experience to handle a non-coop situation.

I found probable cause for the fox to visit.
There was a hidden nest outside of the coop by a stack of lumber. Several eggs had been eaten with just the shells left as evidence.

Coop and fencing materials are a top priority now.
In the mean time, some ammonia soaked cotton balls will be spread around. That's just a stop-gap if it works.

Sure is a beautiful day out there, even if it is just above freezing temperatures.

I am looking to find out where most people get their pullets from in the Mid-Michigan (Tri City) area. We have a local TSC but we are looking for some different chicks this year. Right now we have 4 ISA browns, 4 Barny's and a Cuckoo Maran. We really like the ISA browns due to how much they lay but they are starting to slow down a lot as we go into their third year. As we increase our flock we want to add some variety. We would like to add 4-6 new chicks this year.
