Wild turkeys coming in for a visit. The tom was behind a tree across the road, so no photo. My turkey license isn't in effect until 5/14.

Yup. They are predicting snow tonight up here, and then rain/sleet tomorrow. Lovely......Broody is still persisting through the terrible weather. 1 week to go.

It's a beautiful sunny day here. Sitting at 45'F.
Saw my first snake of the season. A northern ribbon snake.

Definitely a northern ribbon snake. Confirmed by a herpetology prof from school.
I saw 3 of them today. I'll be watching closely for a nest or breeding activity.
Dang, I love living here!

I just looked it up, and it's a subspecies of garter snake. If you pick it up, it will likely shoot out that wonderful smelling goo too.
Tell it to eat those mice!

I didn't try to pick them up. I was just happy to see them.
Mice aren't my problem; it's the darn chipmunks that are wreaking havoc. That's why I got the barn cat but Hobbes seems to prefer staying in the house with the golden retriever as a pillow.
Floor for the new coop is framed. Hardware cloth and plywood go down tomorrow if it doesn't rain. Then the walls can go up. There are times that I really could use a helper.

See if you can get a female barn cat. Even when spayed the girls are usually better hunters. My 15 year old cat, spayed when 5 months old, specializes in Chipmunks.
