Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Just a past experience anecdote.
I treated my GF's dog by putting a T-shirt on him. The cone-of-shame didn't work but dressing him in a Tee kept him from licking the wound. Just had to make sure that the shirt didn't bind anything or prevent normal body functions. I did have to change shirts a few times a day as they became soiled.
Oh, Yeah!!
I made a kind of shirt for then Rascal gashed open his side, cone and alt collar didn't work as well as the shirt. Made a diff shirt when I cut his chest while grooming him.
Both shirts fasten along the back, first was snaps, second was velcro.

He is beautiful!
We still have one or two extra boys ourselves, but keep trying!
Posting signs, with photo, at feed stores, on craigslist, and in the sale section here may help. Also on Facebook if you are on it.
Good luck!

Question for you all... When should I switch their food over to layer feed? I have about a week+ left of starter feed and am not sure of the proper timing to convert to layer feed. Anything else I need to be aware of as we are entering “Adulthood?”

They are close enough to lay to handle the extra calcium. Mix what you have left with layer feed to transition them over.

My dog has a very large sebaceous cyst (at least I'm pretty sure that is what it is) on his hip right were he is able to lick. It started to ooz around the 1st of August and is licking a lot. I am wondering if there is something that tastes terrible but is safe to apply, so he will stop licking.
called the vet, can't get in till next week, she said keep it clean and keep him from licking....Right!!....Any sugestions?

Sometimes dogs will lick foul-tasting materials off to clean themselves.

I know it is old fashioned, but applying a warm Epsom salt compress 2-3 times a day will draw out the inflammation and discharge. Follow that with an antibacterial ointment or cream (neosporin, Bag Balm, etc - not anything irritating like iodine). And you will need to keep him from licking it. I like the Cloud collars for such things, more comfortable for the dog and less destructive around the house.

Thank you! He's on FB and CL so fingers crossed someone wants to love him. Perhaps I'll have better luck in feed stores. I Appreciate the support!

T shirt wont work the sore is too far down on his hip. I have used T shirts as mud stoppers for walking on our dirt rd. I am trying the hot compresses, so far not very productive. Maybe I will need to put a pair of boxers on him, at least while he is in the house he won't be able to lick:)
Thanks for all the help, fresh ideas come in handy. will have to look up cloud collar, haven't heard of that.

Raz sounds like you managed work a little better yesterday.

I don't exactly remember exactly how we got the T-shirt positioned on the dog, it was awkward because he was a male but eventually we found a way. I remember trying several different ways until we found a way that worked. Good luck finding a way that works. Keep at it.

Indeed, yesterday's work went a lot better than the day before. Getting back in to the swing of things has been interesting, to say the least.

Got the pinless peepers on my top trouble makers last week. Already have calmed a lot of stuff down. doesn't seem to have nearly as much squabbling out in the pen now. so worth it.

And my injured hen in isolation seems to be healing up nicely. Some of her scab fell off a couple of days ago and you can see skin growing back. Hopefully in another week or two I can let her back out with the flock, which I'm sure she'll like with the bully's wearing the pinless peepers.
