Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Oh NO! I hope she turns up today.

A couple of you mentioned you plastic wrapped part of your run. Can you please go into a bit more detail? Is it plastic sheeting that you staple? After months....and months....AND MONTHS of building the house and coop I should be getting occupancy in the next week and then the coop goes up. Hallelujah :bow

I have until December 9th to vacate my current house. Thanks to COVID...it has taken 16 months to build this sucker. You name it, it has happened during this build...including email fraud.Hacker got into the system and requested the credit union wire the construction funds to a different account. Now is asking builder to eat the cost of their mistake.

My little Chinese makeshift chicken shanty did its job, but its really too small for them and cant wait to get the ladies into their new digs. Of course it will be weeks of concern to make sure the new coop secure.

Looks like it’s going to be a clear day today. Enjoy it!

Did your chicken show up that was missing? We "received" 8 new birds just under a year old. The lady just could not afford their upkeep. Supposed to snow here tomorrow maybe 3 inches? Wet snow then rain. Better clean the duck house today. Happy Thanksgiving in case I don't check back prior!

No sign of our missing hen, no feathers, nothing. I'm thinking fox. Everyone will be in for a while, and the game camera needs to be moved to a better location. :(
If she's setting up in the hay, good luck to her! The guys who stacked it didn't do it right, so it's not safe to climb. Couldn't bring myself to make them do it over either.
Today, 57 years ago, JFK was killed. An awful day!
Tomorrow is DS's birthday, celebrated here with just the three of us. And the same for Thanksgiving. We are thankful to still all be here!!!
Ths sun is shining, beautiful day.

I'm going to be on my own this year, just like many folks I think (hope). Feels a little sad.
Sorry to hear that. Being alone sucks sometimes. I've been without family for many, many years and sometimes it does get lonely. Then I remember the stress level of family gatherings and I don't miss it at all. My tradition is Banquet turkey pot pies. No fuss. No muss.

I have to work on Thanksgiving anyway. I'll miss the Lions loss that day.

Dangnabit. Hawk got one of my ducks. I hadn't seen any predators for several weeks so I guess I got lax in my routines. The Rouen paid the price. I took the carcass out to the sand pit in hopes that it will keep the hawk away from the coop and run.

It has been predator free here since the fox and coyote were killed last year. The squirrel population has boomed. And a couple of young raccoons have been seen lately. Going to have to up my security routine. especially since I've seen the young eagle flying around every couple of weeks. And because Big Boy is injured I can't completely rely on his vigilance. Living in the woods has some downsides but I wouldn't trade it for love or money.

I used clear shower curtains. The plastic is pretty tough, so I never throw those out when I replace them. I had two saved "for something," and this ended up being the something. I used zip ties through the grommet holes to secure them to the fence on the side of the run.

They're much longer than the run is tall, so l flattened it out on the ground over the no-dig apron and covered that part with leaves. It won't catch (too much) wind I hope. I covered the west side, and went around the corner to the north and south. Still a lot of open fence for ventilation, but the chickens have some area outside that won't be too windy.
